This is a much stronger start than Season 1 (as much as I liked it). Rikuo’s "heir" status finally feels serious, and the Kyoto threat makes the story more intense more quickly.
As the first episode of the new season, I think it's really amazing how they encapsulated what Nura is about. As someone who watched the first season as a child, this is a great recap of sort to get back into a groove and a great introduction to the series even without seeing the first season. The animation is very so-so, which is considered great for its time, and the pacing might be a bit slower than anime nowadays since this is still anime that was produced 20+ episode per-run. Overall, a great opening, and I do wonder where my favorite girl would come into the scene.
Opening this season's first episode with a younger Rikuo and his destined responsibility as heir provides a deeper and more substantial narrative context that connects both seasons perfectly. The pacing was dense and packed with detail, offering richer depth for the plot alongside stunning visual settings and fluid animation. And also the new opening song fits the overall vibe of the plot reasonably well, but honestly the previous season's theme was instantly catchy on the first listen, making this new track feel a bit less thrilling and exciting by comparison.
