typical filler setup episode with team guy and naruto heading to star village, the bribing tsunade bit is kinda funny but otherwise it's just mission briefing and walking through poison gas, nothing really happens until the star gets stolen at the end

I really enjoyed the scene where the falling star crashed down and that Sumaru kid seems like he can actually fight for once unlike most filler characters

This is just another filler arc starting up. It sucks how the pacing slows down right when the main story was getting good and interesting

Putting the meteor crash at the beginning was a smart move for my tastes and I think the introduction of the Hidden Star Village was solid. Sumaru is better than the annoying kids Naruto usually has to babysit, and it feels like there is history with the star training. It was nice seeing Hokuto too, and the whole mystery is decent

Sumaru is a solid addition to the cast for this arc and he actually helps Naruto out instead of just being a burden the whole time

It feels like a chore sitting through another random village story. The animation quality is definitely not as good as the main episodes usually are

The Star Village is a cool concept for a side arc. Seeing Naruto have to deal with a new team of ninjas is alright even if it is not canon

I am not a big fan of fillers. The mystery of the star training caught my attention and it seems like it could be a decent little side quest

Naruto getting tricked by a fake thief right at the start was classic and it shows how much he still needs to learn. The star training seems sketchy and the village leaders are definitely hiding something big

The Hidden Star Village has such a weird vibe and those gas masks make the other ninjas look creepy. It is fun seeing Neji and Rock Lee on a mission with Naruto again even if nothing major happens

I felt bad for Sumaru when he was talking about his parents and the star training sounds like it is actually kind of dangerous. Naruto trying to relate to him was a nice moment even if this is filler

You might find the animation painful to look at but the mystery of the internal thief keeps things moving. The way the star glows when Sumaru uses his jutsu is the only part that looks decent

You can tell the budget was low for this one, but the concept of a village built around a meteorite is actually interesting. It adds some unique history to how chakra can be manipulated differently outside of Konoha.

Sumaru is a much better fighter than most filler characters and his encounter with Naruto was pretty solid. The village seems way too dramatic about people you just met but the inner thief plot is a decent hook

I really liked seeing Team Guy get some screen time again and their dynamic with Naruto is always funny. The pink and purple chakra effects are a nice change from the usual blue stuff we always see

You finally get to see another hidden village and their weird star powers but it is just more filler. The idea of space rock chakra is cool and Sumaru seems alright for a side character

That opening scene with the star falling looks great but then the rest of the art takes a huge dive. It is hard to stay interested when the characters look so off and the story feels slow

I was skeptical because this is filler, but that meteorite training and the purple chakra look pretty cool. Sumaru is actually a decent character, and I like his attitude when he meets Naruto. It is a bit annoying that the animation looks so rough in some parts, but the mystery of who is trying to steal the star has me curious.

Neji and Tenten being on a mission with Naruto always leads to some good team dynamics and you can tell the star training is going to cause some major issues

That peacock method chakra wings thing is actually a really neat idea for a non canon ability and it makes the fight scenes look unique

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 178 launches the Star Guard Mission filler arc, following the standalone filler 'Please, Mr. Postman!' and moving deeper into the extended filler stretch that dominates the back half of Naruto's 220-episode run. It introduces Hoshigakure, its enigmatic meteorite, and key players like Sumaru and Akahoshi, establishing the conflicts that will unfold across the next several episodes. For viewers tracking canon content, this arc is entirely skippable, but it offers self-contained stakes and fresh team dynamics for those along for the ride.
