a flashback filler about young naruto's academy days and his relationship with iruka, showing how isolated he was as a kid which hits harder if you're invested in their bond but it drags a bit and doesn't add much new, decent for filler but still feels like waiting for the real plot to come back

Naruto using the Rasengan just to speed up a boat is actually hilarious and the postman guy is way too intense for his own good

Watching that delivery ninja practically kill himself sprinting for one tiny letter had me laughing out loud, I swear! It's wild how much focus even a simple task gets in their world, and his over-the-top dedication totally made me enjoy that filler episode way more than I expected.

I really missed Naruto and Jiraiya hanging out and having that manuscript swap for the peace treaty was hilarious

Naruto trying to finish Jiraiya's manuscript while he was passed out was such a disaster waiting to happen and the postman chase through the woods had some surprisingly decent energy for a filler

I am still laughing about how a whole war was stopped just because some guy loved a pervy book so much he forgot to be angry

The Land of Fang leader actually being a fan of Jiraiya and ending a war over his book is so stupid and funny

I think this is one of the better filler episodes because the comedy with the ninja mailmen actually works well

Filler can be a drag, but this one is actually fun because of the mailmen and the sheer absurdity of the peace treaty mix up. Watching Jiraiya try to finish his book while Naruto gets annoyed is a great reminder of why their dynamic is so good, and it is just silly that the Fang Daimyo is such a huge fan of Jiraiya

Jiraiya and Naruto are a top tier duo and their back and forth is the only reason to watch this episode

Watching Naruto lose his mind over Jiraiya being lazy is great, especially when he tries to finish the novel himself

You have to respect how much effort went into this goofy story about a swapped manuscript and a potential war

Seeing Naruto use the sexy jutsu just to get Jiraiya to focus on the peace treaty instead of his books was such a funny moment

Those courier ninjas are the funniest part of this filler because they are so serious about delivering mail

This was just an alright filler episode because the pacing was slow but Naruto and Jiraiya together always makes it entertaining enough to watch once

Watching the leaf village almost cause a diplomatic crisis because of Jiraiya writing his pervy novels was hilarious and that postman is a legend for being that fast

Jiraiya and Naruto have the best dynamic in the show, even if this was just a weird story about a delivery man running across the country for a book.

I keep forgetting how much of a pervert Jiraiya is until he panics about his book and the delivery ninja almost starting a war because of it was actually pretty funny

The boat scene with the rasengan was actually smart and it is nice to see Naruto doing some training even if this whole story felt like a total side quest

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting deep in the extended filler stretch that dominates the back half of Naruto's original 220-episode run, Episode 177 follows a similarly standalone comedic outing in Episode 176 involving Naruto, Kiba, and Hinata dealing with impostors. This episode serves as another lighthearted intermission before Episode 178 kicks off a new filler arc involving a mysterious boy and a fresh mission. None of these episodes connect to the main canon storyline, placing this firmly in skip-safe territory for anyone pushing toward the series finale.
