filler treasure hunt that awkwardly interrupts the pain arc with a flashback to part one naruto - konohamaru's gag techniques get a chuckle but the whole thing feels like padding, especially when you know what's waiting on the other side of this detour

naruto stepped in to help isaribi and defend her from those villagers and it reminded me so much of how he used to be treated when he was little

getting a glimpse of orochimaru and sasuke for a second was a shock and it really makes the filler feel more connected to the main story

anko looks so pained every time that cursed seal starts acting up and those flashbacks to her in the tank were actually pretty creepy

Wait so Guy put on that ridiculous outfit just to mess around during a serious mission and it actually worked to get a laugh and the irony of Naruto looking for his own dad legacy is just too much

Watching Anko try to remember what happened at the cursed laboratory was actually pretty haunting, and that unreleased track they played during the flashback really stood out to me and I know people say to skip the fillers but the atmosphere in this part of the arc feels different and I find myself caring about Isaribi more than I expected to especially with how much she has suffered

The art style felt a bit off during the fight scenes and it really makes you wish they would get back to the manga material soon

The story feels like it is going in circles and you can definitely skip this whole sea mission without missing anything important

Anko deserves way more screen time than she gets in the main series and it was nice to see her take center stage for once

Ino and Shino together on a mission is such a weird choice and I kept wondering how they would actually get anything done with their clashing personalities

You could honestly skip this one since it does not move the plot forward at all, but the stuff with Anko's mark was decent

Seeing Isaribi struggle with what Orochimaru did to her is really sad and you just want Naruto to help her out already

That dark music playing during the flashback was actually pretty cool and it made the atmosphere feel way heavier than usual

I actually liked seeing more of Anko and her memories of Orochimaru even if the animation looked a bit rough in some spots

This filler arc is dragging on and you can really tell they are just stalling for time before getting back to the real story

the animation looks surprisingly clean for a filler episode and the forest scenery during the challenge made the whole boring treasure hunt at least look nice to watch

I honestly don't mind the occasional filler arc when the comedy hits right, but this specific quest for the fourth hokage legacy feels like such a tease and it was nice seeing the younger versions of everyone again and hearing that classic soundtrack, but knowing this doesn't actually lead anywhere significant makes it hard to stay invested in the scavenger hunt mission

naruto and his friends going on a random scavenger hunt is definitely a decent break if you just want some lighthearted comedy and zero stakes for once

you keep waiting for a big reveal about the fourth hokage, but the episode just dances around it and leaves you feeling like you missed out on the actual plot

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting deep in the filler stretch that dominates the back half of Naruto's 220-episode run, episode 170 continues a mini-arc investigating the mysterious 'Kaima' creature, following episode 169's initial setup of the mission. This installment deepens the emotional stakes by introducing Isaribi and her connection to the case, positioning the team for 'Infiltration: The Set-Up!' in the next episode as the conspiracy behind the mission begins to unravel.
