this is a major turning point where naruto finally confronts nagato face to face after all the destruction, the emotional weight of asking for his story instead of attacking hits different and sets up one of the most memorable conversations in the whole series

Nice to see Anko

I finally get to see more of Anko and her link to Orochimaru makes this filler actually feel like it matters for once

Anko deserves a real arc in the manga because her connection to Orochimaru is way too interesting to just be stuck in these side episodes

I was really bored until the Orochimaru flashbacks started and everything else with the boat mission just feels like a waste of time

Naruto getting his chakra sucked out by the sea monster was a pretty brutal way to start the fight and it actually felt like there were some stakes

The animation during the sea monster fight was decent for a filler arc, but the way they use Ino as a punching bag for Naruto is getting old

I actually liked getting some actual lore for Anko because she usually just disappears in the background of the village scenes, and seeing her struggle with those old memories of Orochimaru adds a lot to her character. It makes the Sea Country mission feel a bit more important than the usual random side quests

This mission feels like it is dragging and Shino is barely doing anything while Naruto and Ino just yell at each other

That bandages girl giving Naruto cpr after he got his chakra drained was such a weird moment that you do not see coming

I think the sea monster plot is a bit slow but the stuff with Anko and her lost memories with Orochimaru finally gives her some depth

Anko needs more screen time and seeing those Orochimaru flashbacks was actually cool for a filler episode

Ino being mean to Naruto for no reason makes this hard to watch and she is way more annoying than Sakura right now

The whole mystery about the sea monster was okay and Shino using his bugs underwater was definitely the most logical thing he could have done to find the target

That creepy hidden lab really shows how deep the influence of Orochimaru goes even when he is not the main villain and Anko deserves justice for what he did

That connection between Naruto and Isaribi is a good reason to watch this and his empathy for fellow outcasts is always his best trait whenever the story slows down like this

Anko struggling with her lost memories was interesting to me, but the episode moved a bit too slow for my liking during the investigative parts on the boat.

Isaribi being a fish hybrid is actually a pretty dark concept for this show and it makes me hate Orochimaru even more for messing with people like that for his experiments

Skip this if you only care about the main plot because it is clearly filler and the art quality takes a massive dip compared to the search for Sasuke

Naruto and Ino and Shino is such a weird team combo and it almost feels like a random fanfiction prompt but they surprisingly work together fine for a filler mission

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting deep in the back half of Naruto's original 220-episode run, this episode marks the start of the Kaima Capture Mission filler arc, following the conclusion of a lighter standalone story in episode 168. It establishes the mystery and team dynamics that carry into the next episode, 'The Closed Door,' where the mission's stakes escalate and the investigation grows more dangerous.
