I actually liked seeing Shizune get some screen time, even if she just gets beat up, and seeing her little pig lead Naruto around was such a weird change of pace. I know most people say to skip all the fillers after Sasuke leaves, but this Mizuki stuff is okay for now and at least the pig is cute

Having the first villain come back is cool even if it is filler and watching a pig do ninja work is funny

Another filler arc and I am already bored since this is going to last for eighty episodes and Mizuki is not that interesting

Mizuki having some secret connection to Orochimaru is a cool way to tie him back into the current events and watching Naruto struggle against the giant brothers was the best part since they are just huge

It is hard to take the threat seriously when the main tracker is a pig, especially when you know none of this actually matters for the real story about Sasuke.

The way those Raijin and Fujin brothers just steamrolled through everyone was pretty intimidating and they definitely seem like more of a threat than Mizuki ever was back in the first episode

I do not mind the slower pace of these side stories and seeing Tonton actually do something useful for once was a fun change of pace from the usual training stuff

You can tell the animation quality is dipping a bit and having an entire plot point revolve around a pig smelling things is not exactly the high stakes ninja action expected

Seeing Iruka getting involved in the search for Mizuki is a nice throwback to the very beginning of the series and it adds a bit of weight to the mission given their history in the pilot

It was cool seeing Mizuki again, since he was the original villain, and it gives the world a bit more history despite this being filler. Watching Naruto use a tracking pig is pretty goofy, but seeing the brothers finally show some real power in their transformed states made me feel like the mission actually had some weight.

Naruto thinking he can get info about Orochimaru from a guy like Mizuki seems like a stretch but at least the fight scenes in the woods were decent enough to watch while they were jumping through the trees

I really cannot believe I am watching a whole episode centered around Tsunade pig Tonton and it is definitely making me wonder if I should just skip to Shippuden already

Mizuki coming back feels weird after all this time and he somehow looks different but seeing Naruto still so desperate to find any lead on Sasuke is actually kind of sad

Mizuki escaped and instead of a cool hunt we get Tonton leading the charge and it makes the stakes feel so low and pointless

Following a pig around for twenty minutes is a new low for this show and even the fight scenes felt like they were just stalling for time

My interest spiked when they mentioned the prison break, but then Tonton showed up and ruined the tension for me

Everything about this episode screamed side quest and watching a pig lead the way while Naruto complained was definitely not the follow up to the Sasuke stuff you wanted

The Orochimaru connection with Mizuki seems interesting but the way they are stretching it out with this tracking stuff makes it hard to care and you just end up missing the main story

I am actually kind of annoyed that they brought Mizuki back for this because he was such a cool first villain, but now he just feels like a random guy from a side story and watching Naruto try to use Tonton to track him was a bit funny at first but the pacing is just dragging so much and I might just skip these fillers soon

That scene with Iruka looking all worried about Mizuki was the only okay part because everything else was just Naruto being loud while a pig ran around

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 143 sits deep in the original Naruto's filler stretch, continuing the Mizuki Tracking Mission arc that kicked off with Mizuki's prison escape in the preceding episodes. It picks up directly from the setup in 'The Three Villains from the Maximum Security Prison' and feeds into 'A New Squad! Two People and a Dog?!', which shakes up the team composition for the ongoing pursuit.
