Episode Context

Episode 136 lands immediately after the emotionally charged 'The Promise That Could Not Be Kept' (Episode 135), which closed out the Sasuke Retrieval arc, one of the original series' most iconic stretches. This episode serves as a transitional filler bridging into the 'Land of Rice Fields Investigation Mission' storyline, redirecting focus toward Naruto, Sakura, and Jiraiya's next steps. With 84 episodes remaining in the original 220-episode run, the series is now deep into its extended filler-heavy back half.
