I have mixed feelings about this one because the war is literally happening, but we are watching people dig a well. That wind ball move Ashura used made me wonder if the technique just got lost over time. It makes sense that he would pass it down through Ninshu even if Minato rediscovered it.

Black Zetsu is already messing with Indra and it is so hard to watch him fall for it when he was supposed to be the genius brother

Wait so did Ashura invent the rasengan because that scene felt like it was breaking all the rules we knew about Minato and the fourth hokage

Indra is letting his ego get the best of him and it is painful to see how easily he gets manipulated by the shadows

Hagoromo making them go on these journeys to prove themselves was a smart move to see their true colors away from home

When the villagers actually started helping Ashura dig that well, I felt such a relief, because it really sealed the deal on why he's the true leader, not his brother. It showed me how much his compassion truly moved them.

Ashura used the rasengan way before Minato and that makes no sense but the part where everyone worked together for water was actually kind of nice

The way the artwork looked while Ashura was traveling was a bit off and I just want to get back to the actual war soon

I know this is filler, but seeing Hagoromo actually choose his successor based on who cares for the people felt right for the lore.

Ashura really reminds me of Naruto with how he always puts helping people first, instead of just flexing his power. I guess that's why this lineage always ends up being so significant; it's that genuine connection to others that feels like the real strength Naruto has always tapped into, not just raw power.

I still can't believe Ashura spent an entire year digging that well just to help those villagers and his kindness really sets him apart from Indra

Black Zetsu whispering in the shadows is so frustrating because Indra started out as a decent guy before his head got filled with all that poison

Ashura teaching the villagers how to work together instead of just doing everything himself really explains why he is the true heir to Ninshu

The contrast between Indra using force and Ashura building a community was done well, especially when you realize Hagoromo used to build bridges the same way

I feel like Indra is getting the short end of the stick since he actually fixed his village problem fast while Ashura took forever to get anything done

This backstory arc is dragging on way too long and it feels like we spent the whole time watching guys dig a hole in the dirt instead of moving the plot forward

Watching Ashura dig for water for a year while Indra finished his task instantly is a weird way to pick a successor and it makes Hagoromo look like a strange parent

Indra is getting played so hard by Black Zetsu and the resentment building up every time his dad looks at Ashura is painful to watch

Ashura refusing to just destroy the tree and getting the whole village to help him dig that well was honestly so heartwarming. I know people hate filler arcs, but seeing the origins of Ninshu like this makes the main rivalry feel way more grounded and it really proves that being a leader is about people and not just raw power

EPISODE CONTEXT

Following 'The Tumultuous Journey,' where Ashura set out on his mission, this episode deepens his philosophy and problem-solving approach as a direct contrast to Indra's methods. It's part of the extended filler block exploring the origins of the Naruto-Sasuke dynamic through their ancestral counterparts. The events here feed directly into the next episode, 'The Successor,' where the outcomes of both brothers' missions determine who will inherit leadership of Ninshū.
