Synopsis
The beginning of the Taishou era spelled the end of the tanuki's tricks. These raccoon dogs, who are able to transform into human beings, used to love fooling humans until advanced technology rendered their endeavors futile. However, Mameda, a young tanuki girl, has not given up on this tradition, and—resolved to follow in her father's footsteps—travels to Osaka in hopes of duping people. As others in her village predicted, Mameda fails to deceive a single person, and she is even hunted down by an angry crowd. After finding refuge in a theater, she stumbles upon a rakugo performance given by a master of the art, Bunko Daikokutei. Fascinated by the vivid images created by the rakugoka's acting, Mameda becomes enamored with this style of storytelling and decides to become Bunko's apprentice! Despite her initial reluctance to take a disciple, Bunko begins to teach Mameda rakugo after witnessing the young tanuki's perseverance. Between undertaking a taiko apprenticeship, handling her work at the theater, and memorizing plays, Mameda needs to give her all if she ever plans to master the only art that still has a chance to fool people.

Utaroku is somewhat really interesting, despite he rejected Mameda. Because he has his own criteria, and it is not something that anyone can do.
After she learn from Shirara, she starts to go to see another master, and in the meantime we will learn who is Daikokuji is, and why he was respected by 4 Heavenly Kings.
Funny how a guy that always get into trouble financially helped Mameda to do a comeback and from here we can see Mameda is learning by herself from Four Heavenly Kings.
It feels so sad seeing student is not with their master. It is a bit tearjerking but however it is for a good reason, and Mameda is killing it!
Mameda met butt-kudanji. Wait no, that came out wrong, Shirara's master, Byakudanji Tsubaki, he was called for that due to some reason.
Tenjin is so cute!!! I love how she snuck out from the parade just to get to see the show.
Everyone's first time on the stage get stage fright. That is normal, and Mameda need to get over it to become a successful Rakugo
So Koito already knew all along! And she just about to reveal to Bunko by accident. LOL!
Wait! Shirara is a royalty?! Or she is a yakuza's daughter. Anyway, what a brave moment for a racoon to run to the rescue for Shirara. I couldn't help but get goosebump everytime they did a Rakugo routine.
Since Mameda never live in a human world, she needs to learn to understand and work together with human. That is what was taught by Bunko, and also Rakugo is not something like you can pull it off alone.
I just love how enthusiastic energy coming out from Mameda and keeps wanting to be like Bunko. Although, her master is quite cold
This is a good anime, it tells about Rakugoka in Japan. It feels amazingly good in the start of anime
What is his problem, hating Rakugo so much and abuse his power just for the sake to remove entertainment. He should beheaded for being hating on fun.
This finale was actually very satisfying. At first I was weirded out by the plot but then I realized this was a big final test for Mameda. She can finally put to use everything she has learned about people and trust. I love how Mameda's relationship with Bunko is handled here, it was such a tearjerking moment. This episode made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, the title really mimics what this episode is all about.
This feels like a transition episode that is setting up for the finale. The red light district here is interesting and feels like a brand new setting. The writing here does a great job setting up. The emotional impact here was just way too fast, they didn't even get to properly marinate Mameda's feelings here.
This has such a satisfying resolution coming from the last episode. I like Enshi's reaction to Mameda's performance this was such an effective moment. The emotional impact here is high, and the voice performance both in the rakugo scene and the aftermath was excellent. The pacing is also well controlled and the emotional payoff was well earned.
Wow this episode made me really understand how demanding a rakugo performer is. The animation here looks carefully composed and the rakugo scene was just beautiful. The pacing builds tension steadily all throughout the episode and is partnered with the right soundtrack. This was a strong episode for Mameda's growth.
This was such an emotional episode. Ngl, the conflict between Bunko and Mameda was quite intense, they are both right in their own way. The scene was well written and the acting just made me feel the tension even more. I also commend the voice acting, it made the emotions land harder. The pacing was also great, it built up to the conflict.
This was a well written episode. Shirara's master being a financial disaster was so funny, and it was nice that they showed his flaws. That one that I didn't like though is Mameda promising to shoulder a debt, which was actually really reckless.
The festival setting was actually visually impressive, I like how the lanterns, the crowd, the weather, and the chaos all contributed onto that wonderful festive vibe. The writing also felt like a light adventure after that performance. Lord Tenjin is a fun character here and seeing Mameda negotiate with a god was amusing. The pacing is also really smooth and was an enjoyable watch all throughout.
