Episode Context

Episode 9 marks the second installment of the 'Japanese Chimera' arc, continuing directly from Part 1's introduction of the incense competition and its increasingly sinister undercurrents at Lady Ruri's mansion. Positioned in the final quarter of the series, this arc bridges the earlier supernatural investigations with the climactic 'Goblin Cat' arc that closes out the season. It deepens the show's recurring exploration of how human darkness invites mononoke, setting thematic groundwork for the final confrontation ahead.
