EPISODE REVIEWS

The arc begins as a murder mystery, then becomes something sadder. The prison setting, masks, and Ochou’s grief give this episode a theatrical, almost suffocating mood. Quietly gripping, the show's strongest when its vibes are mysterious like this.

Episode Context

Episode 6 marks the halfway point of the series and launches the 'Faceless Monster' arc immediately following the conclusion of the 'Sea Bishop' storyline. This two-part arc introduces Ochou and her grim circumstances, giving the Medicine Seller a fresh mystery to dissect. As the first half of a paired narrative, this episode prioritizes atmosphere and setup, positioning the resolution and the mononoke's true nature for the following episode.
