The Gathering Storm
The race begins with a show of polished machines lined up, drones hovering like mechanical vultures over the starting grid. An unseen announcer builds the suspense, emphasizing the raw power held in check. Then, a sudden flash of green, and the coiled energy explodes into motion. Cars surge forward, a blur of color and speed.
Sawatari's Reckless Charge
Inside his blue Alpine, Kouki Sawatari shows an almost reckless determination, pushing his car hard from the very start. A bead of sweat on his temple hints at the intensity within. The commentators note his aggressive approach, questioning whether this early offensive will serve him well or lead to an early downfall. He drives directly into the 'hydro trap' section, showing no hesitation.
The Treacherous Hydro Trap
The track reveals a 'hydro trap,' a waterfall cascading directly onto the road, creating a dangerous wet patch. Sawatari tears through it, sending up huge plumes of water. But the wet surface betrays him; his car suddenly loses traction. The Alpine spins wildly, a chaotic blue blur against the asphalt.
Chaos and Quick Decisions
In the immediate aftermath of Sawatari's spin, the other drivers face split-second decisions. Michael Beckenbauer, calm amidst the chaos, shouts a directive: "Put it in reverse, Sawatari. Just this once." Behind him, Kanata Katagiri is clearly panicked, desperately asking, "Which way do I dodge him? Right, or left?" Michael directs him, and both cars swerve to avoid a collision, coming to a halt as the rest of the field screams past.
The Miraculous Recovery
The announcers are stunned, declaring the situation "unheard of chaos." Yet, in a display of incredible precision, Kanata and Michael weave their cars back into the race, squeezing through minuscule gaps. The commentators praise their "lightning fast and nimble move," speculating that the manual transmissions in their cars were key, allowing a level of control an automatic car like Sawatari's simply doesn't offer for such maneuvers. This swift re-entry prevents a total disaster.
Sawatari's Philosophical Comeback
As Kouki Sawatari finds himself last, his girlfriend on a pedestrian bridge frets over his uncharacteristic mistake. But Kouki himself seems oddly amused by his predicament. He laughs, declaring the mishap has "yanked the weight right off my chest," freeing him from the burden of leading. Now, his focus shifts: he aims to aggressively gain "overtake bonuses" by climbing through the field.
Early Leaders and Their Burdens
The race map shows the "Seaside Double Lane" course, broken into sectors. Announcers detail the current standings, with Moroboshi (number 885) in the lead, followed by Ema Greene (number 624). Moroboshi, a rookie, expresses frustration at his inability to set a steady pace, feeling the immense pressure of leading a broadcast race. He states, "I'm not screwing this up. Not with the pride of Gunma riding on it."
Ema Greene's Calculated Watch
Ema Greene, observing Moroboshi from behind, finds his driving rhythm familiar, almost too easy to follow. She contemplates passing but decides against it, opting for a "wait-and-see approach." She understands the race is long, stating, "Best to be patient." Her internal monologue reveals a determined, strategic mind, focused on a battle she intends to win.
The Tricky Jump
The announcers shift focus to the "jumping spot," a unique and dangerous hurdle on the track. They detail the precise technique required: a straight lift-off, no braking, steady throttle, to avoid spinning out upon landing. Despite the danger, the leading cars, including Moroboshi and a Ferrari, execute the jump flawlessly, leaping through the air with impressive precision before landing smoothly. It is a moment of pure spectacle.
The Beckenbauer Bind
The race tightens between Kanata Katagiri and Michael Beckenbauer, with Michael riding Kanata's bumper. The announcers explain Kanata's predicament: Michael's relentless pressure prevents Kanata from making any aggressive moves. Any attempt to pass another car would leave an opening for Michael, effectively trapping Kanata in a stalemate. The situation is tense, with Michael's intentions unclear.
An Unexpected Alliance
Suddenly, Kanata Katagiri has an epiphany: Michael Beckenbauer isn't simply harassing him. Michael is maintaining an exact distance, using Kanata's slipstream to gain speed, effectively assisting him. Kanata acknowledges this unspoken "gentleman's agreement," accepting the temporary alliance. Michael, in turn, notes Kanata's quick understanding, instructing him to "Just focus on what's in front of you."
The Invincible Train Forms
The battle for position intensifies, with Kanata Katagiri feeling immense pressure as a Lamborghini and Nozomi Kitahara's Ferrari join the tightly packed group. Kanata expresses frustration, feeling "my life's on the line" as cars jostle for space. Nozomi, a "dark horse" according to the commentators, makes an aggressive move. The announcers call this collective of cars an "invincible train," a testament to their combined speed and precision, creating a thrilling side-by-side spectacle.
The Musketeers Regain Ground
While Kanata navigates the lead pack, Kouki Sawatari actively begins his comeback, engaging in a direct battle with a Lotus. The announcers note the resurgence of all three "tricolor musketeers," Kanata, Michael, and Kouki, recognizing their collective push to regain lost positions. They are significantly increasing their pace, fighting their way back from earlier setbacks. The second lap is now underway.
Race Queens' Summer Tales
A humorous interlude interrupts the racing, featuring two race queens: the sardonic Kyoko and the sweet Aiba. Kyoko recounts a graphic, self-deprecating tale of norovirus, while Aiba shares a charming, almost cliché, story of yukatas and fireworks. The segment highlights their contrasting personalities. Back in the commentary booth, the announcers express surprise at Nozomi Kitahara's unexpected performance, calling her a "dark horse" within the "invincible train" of leading cars, wondering if anyone can escape its formidable grasp.
EPISODE REVIEWS

The scenes with the angels felt so out of place and random; Like those ad breaks you couldn't skip. But because it was really brief and went back into the race right after, it didn't feel like that much of a boring section.

Great episode! The teaming was truly not anticipated and felt really refreshing. I personally want to see more of Beckenbauer and Kanata outside of racing and their interactions there; their 'combination' was truly powerful on the track!

I think this episode showed a more human side of Sawatari for a few moments, which subverted expectations from his usual maniacal self.. great episode overall with an intense race that constantly had me on the edge of my seat.
