READTHROUGH
Qualifying Day 7 Begins
The final day of qualifying begins with the immediate roar of engines. K. Greene carves through corners, setting a respectable early time. Then, Takuya Yanagida, the 'OG Cornering Wizard', tackles the hydro trap and high-speed S-curves, his focus unwavering as he pushes his rear-wheel-drive BMW. He drives with the conviction of a pro, demonstrating complete control over his machine despite earlier slumps, a true testament to his skill.
Moroboshi's Aggression and MFG's Bias
Kanata watches from the cafe, his thoughts fixed on Sena Moroboshi. Moroboshi bursts from the starting line in his yellow Supra, an aggressive blur. Observers Yugo and Ohtani discuss the MFG algorithm, a system biased by Ryosuke Takahashi's theories on speed, favoring drivers who adhere to his principles. This explains why certain 'rookie' drivers, like Moroboshi, receive attention flags, signaling their adherence to a particular driving style.
Ren's Love and Nozomi's Counsel
Ren confesses her deep anxiety to Nozomi about Kanata’s potential return to England. She fears asking him directly, afraid of confronting a truth that would leave her heartbroken. Nozomi, with surprising depth, advises Ren to ask anyway, drawing on her own experiences with past loves. She argues that accepting the inevitable allows one to appreciate the present, a hard truth for Ren to hear.
The King's Confident Run
The focus shifts to the reigning champion, Michael Beckenbauer, as he takes the stage in his white Porsche Cayman GT4. He exudes confidence, a three-time winner expected to dominate. His chosen car, a manual transmission with an H-pattern shifter, mirrors Kanata's setup, a detail that catches the attention of Ohtani and Yugo. Beckenbauer drives with his usual, deceptively calm precision, making his way through the course.
Sawatari's Trap Unveiled
Beckenbauer believes his run is too easy, dismissing his rivals, until his pit crew reports he is falling behind. He realizes Kouki Sawatari has tricked him. Sawatari had maintained radio silence, hiding his true pace and forcing Beckenbauer to underestimate him. This tactical error frustrates Beckenbauer, but it also sparks a fierce determination in him, promising to pay back Sawatari in the upcoming race.
Qualifying Results and Strategic Dissection
The final qualifying results place Sawatari first, a shock to many. Ohtani and Yugo dissect Sawatari's strategy, realizing he gambled by setting his suspension for Sector 3's bumpy roads, sacrificing speed in Sector 1 to gain an advantage where others would struggle. This clever, long-shot gamble secured his pole position. They anticipate an even more intense race, especially with Beckenbauer's ego wounded and Kanata likely holding back his true speed.
Kanata's Memories and Parental Wisdom
Ren and Kanata visit a temple, continuing their search for the location in his parents' photo. While Ren prays for Kanata to stay, Kanata reflects on his past, specifically a conversation with his mother, Emma Greene. She explains how the brain prevents accurate recall of a loved one's face, creating anxiety that drives one to see them again. This is how the mind signals true love, a concept that resonates deeply with Kanata.
Kanata's Love and Lingering Doubt
Alone by the sea, Kanata grapples with his mother's words. He realizes he is in love with Ren, a feeling that makes him happy but also anxious. He knows he must eventually return to England, creating a painful conflict between his emotions and his future. He longs for his parents' advice, feeling lost and unable to share his burden with anyone.
Emma Greene's Ultimatum
At the paddock, Emma Greene confronts Ren, coldly urging her to let Kanata go for the sake of his racing career. Emma asserts that Kanata's talent is too rare to be wasted in Japan, and staying would mean missing out on significant opportunities. Ren is shocked and heartbroken, pleading with Emma, but ultimately resigns herself to the painful request. Emma's determination is clear, even at Ren's expense.
The Grid is Set
With commentators Yoji Tonooka and Kyoichi Sudo setting the scene, the cars line up at the starting grid, creating a palpable tension. The longest course of the season promises a battle of endurance and strategy, particularly for the top three. Sena Moroboshi declares his singular focus on Kanata Katagiri, seeing the race as a one-on-one duel regardless of other competitors or positions. The stage is set for an intense showdown.
EPISODE REVIEWS

Ren's conflict with Kanata is realistic! While Emma has been condescending thus far, she is right about what she said to Ren. Hoping the couple come up with a solution or compromise with one another, and communicate properly.

The races were well executed and stayed true to the manga. However, I had different expectations for Beckenbauer’s race and was surprised by his result, as I had anticipated a different outcome.

The episode gradually eases into the Seaside Double Lane Preliminaries before shifting focus to the Absolute Champion’s performance. It’s intercut with Ren’s scenes and ultimately ends on them, which makes the conclusion feel a bit abrupt.
