nikaidou is such an amazing character. the fact that he actually wrote and drew that entire book himself shows how much he cares about shogi. the internal monologues continue to be incredibly strong and emotional.

the dedication exhibited by the rival character provides a necessary foil to the protagonist's depressive inertia. furthermore, the show's ability to maintain the structural integrity of its internal monologues is commendable.

Harunobu continues to demonstrate his excellent teaching skills to the younger Kawamoto sisters. Rei receives a thoughtful, if surprising housewarming gift. Afterwards, he receives a surprise visit from someone from his past which skillfully weaves tension and discomfort.

Teaching the joys of shogi to a young generation and having a passionate show of camaraderie from a self proclaimed best friend, Kiriyama is remined about something important to him that may finally bring him back from his slump, but just then, a re-encounter comes like a storm.

The first part had me laughing so much since Nikaidou did his self-proclaimed best friend job again, but it all stopped when someone visited Rei. It was so unexpected to see her, I thought she was completely just a part of his past.

The story in this episode is very deep and makes me more interested in the continuation. Also the role of Rei's older sister is very impressive.

Here the feelings are more similar. There are times when things are calm and times when things are a little happy and story is still slow but it is more interesting now.

Ah, the rich can really do whatever they want. That said, Nikaidou is a really talented lad. Also, Kyouko’s character is really interesting. I was expecting a more dramatic scene, but it turned out pretty light. Overall, a great episode—the style and direction are great and cute.
