the cats in this show are just so cute! that little shogi cat song was adorable, you can really tell the author loves animals. getting a proper explanation of the game was super helpful too.

integrating an educational segment on the rules of shogi via an endearing feline musical number is a highly creative pedagogical choice. it provides necessary context without bogging down the pacing with dry exposition.

that scene with takahashi straight up looked like a date to me, also i still do not understand anything they were saying about the game rules but the cats were cute

Rei has a short but heartfelt talk with Takahashi while Hina attempts to compose herself. Unfortunately/Fortunately for her, she’ll be seeing him a little more often now which forced her to go into panic mode. We also see how well Rei and Harunobu are at teaching shogi.

Sometimes to take us out of our slumps we don’t need much. A lot of time, just some words of recognition, having someone to understand us or to show interest in the world we’re in can be more than enough, and to Kiriyama, those were just the things that he needed to hear.

Hahahaha Rei being expressive is super cute! Kudos to Nikaidou for being Rei's self-proclaimed best friend!

a little more time spent with other people. It's still slow but you can see little changes in how he acts. The tone is a little less serious than it was before.

Amazing episode! Rei’s growth and development really got me—he’s not so stoic after all. That said, Nikaidou's a surprisingly good teacher—it makes sense since he’s passionate and emotional. Overall, a great episode—great style and animation, and the little song is a nice touch.
