the teacher validating all his daily efforts was so sweet it made me want to cry. knowing he has this amazing support system around him keeping him on his feet is just so heartwarming.

utilizing oceanic visual metaphors to illustrate the ebb and flow of the match was a brilliant artistic choice. the teacher's speech regarding the inherent value of daily survival is one of the most poignant moments in the series.

the way they visualized the match with the ocean waves was so cool, his teacher is the real gpat here btw, he really told him that just surviving and doing his best is enough. even i almost cry

It's always a good episode with this anime. Not bad, just good to best. They have maintained the mysterious emotions of Rei without getting too dark for the story.

Rei spends some time with the shogi workshop as he helps Shimada as he prepares to play in the third match of the Shishi-ou Tournament. Rei gets his school results while later Hina and Momo pay a visit, a reminder of people who are still there for him.

I really like Rei's relationship with his teacher. His teacher is very good at making Rei's mood better.

This episode makes me feel really uncomfortable. The focus changes to school life and you can feel the tension rising. The story is not very dramatic  but the silence and reactions make it feel heavy.

Hayashida Sensei recognizing Rei’s efforts is the highlight of this episode. I really love the emotion conveyed here. That aside, Akari’s perception is spot on. Overall, a great episode—stylish direction, cute and lively animation, and amazing narration.
