The story is set in WW1 but with big robots & giant creatures. The animation is CGI, but the visuals were captivating. Interesting to see two kids in war in this kind of world setting. The pace was a little slow, but I have high hopes for this.

Visually stunning and the world seems interesting so far. Not what I was expecting tonally from an alt WW1 setting, but that's not necessarily a bad thing and it could change.

That opening with the Stormwalker in the rain was so intense, especially when Alek almost tripped over that massive tree root. I really felt for him when he realized the truth about his parents while still being stuck in that cramped cockpit.

Episode Context

A steampunk alternate-history premiere that splits its focus between two compelling leads on opposite ends of a world barreling toward war. Prince Aleksandar gets thrown into the cockpit of a massive walking machine in Austria-Hungary, while Deryn Sharp binds her identity and her ambitions together to infiltrate the British Air Service in Edinburgh. The tone is a calculated blend of wide-eyed adventure and mounting geopolitical dread, grounded by themes of duty, disguise, and defiance against rigid societal expectations. Orange delivers a visually rich 1914 that feels both familiar and fantastical. Pacing is deliberately methodical here, this is worldbuilding first, action second, but the character work earns that patience. Expect tension laced with exhilaration, personal stakes that mirror the continental ones, and a foundation built to carry serious weight.
