EPISODE REVIEWS

The episode leans pretty heavily into exposition and Aoi's flashbacks which made the pacing feel slow. I'm still not sold on Oryou although learning more about her was interesting. Aoi and Oodanna haven't progressed much relationship wise but she definitely seems less intimidated by him now. My biggest issue with this series is definitely the exposition overload. The character interactions are easily the strongest part, yet the show keeps slowing down to dump information on us. It makes episodes feel way more boring than they need to be.

O-ryo has a very standard tragic backstory that is meant to give complexity to her mean girl personality, but I do like the conclusion of her arc as she ends up spoiling herself to counter her rigid role of being a hostess. The most unrealistic take is the fact Aoi doesn't have any friends or people close to her enough to have attachment when asked. It's lazy writing to give Aoi reason to stay without a conflict outside of her trying to bled in with the ayakashi.
