The New Objective
In a dimly lit cave, the survivors huddle. Senta, the unlikely strategist, outlines their desperate plan: retrieve the Elixir of Life from Horai, the island's inner sanctum. He speaks of it as a fortified palace, a place designed to ensnare. Mei, small and quiet, provides crucial whispers about their destination and the whereabouts of Lien, the Tensen leader, and the Elixir. Shion interrupts, explaining that stealth is paramount, and they must learn to suppress their energy, a method he refers to as Tao stealth, which will be critical for survival.
Mastering Tao Stealth
Yuzuriha demonstrates the eerie art of diluting one's Tao, her form shimmering, almost disappearing. She speaks of it as hiding one's very existence. Sagiri and Senta struggle with the elusive concept, while Gabimaru, ever the physical prodigy, instinctively contorts his body, trying to muscle his way into the technique. The training quickly turns rigorous, with Yuzuriha serving as a no-nonsense instructor, her wooden stick connecting with any wavering concentration, especially from Senta and Gantetsusai.
Twilight Reflections
As evening paints the sky, the group rests. Gantetsusai grumbles about his fatigue, but Senta reveals that proper Tao management mitigates exhaustion, a new understanding that still surprises him. He shares a quiet moment with Sagiri, both bearing the heavy mantle of their changed perspectives and grim purpose. Even Gabimaru, typically aloof, seems more integrated into the team, the shared ordeal forging an unlikely camaraderie.
The Elemental Compass
The respite ends as Senta begins a crucial lesson, drawing a star in the dirt to illustrate elemental Tao affinities. He explains the cycles of Mutual Production and Destruction, vital for fighting the regenerating Tensens. Mei then provides a chilling roster, listing each Tensen's elemental type, turning the abstract lesson into a concrete threat. Shion grimly reiterates the stakes: an incorrect elemental match means certain death, urging them to memorize the chart.
Two Paths Diverge
The group divides into two units. Gabimaru, Sagiri, Yuzuriha, and Mei form the infiltration team, tasked with stealth and retrieving the elixir. Gantetsusai, Senta, Nurugai, Shion, and Fuchi are assigned the perilous task of securing the escape route and underground boats. Nurugai expresses concern for Shion, blind but resolute, who assures her his Tao perception is his sight. They exchange silent, weighty nods, each team facing a separate, but equally deadly, mission.
Mei's Hope
Gantetsusai observes Mei, noting her newfound resolve despite her fear. Gabimaru asks what she truly desires from a life beyond the island. Mei, through Senta's gentle translation, articulates a simple, profound wish: to live a normal life, free from the island's gruesome cycles of Tao harvesting. She reveals a past where the Tensens were a family before their obsession twisted them. Gabimaru, seeing his own yearning for normalcy reflected in her, kneels and promises to be her shield, a quiet, powerful moment of connection.
Chobe, The New Tensen
The scene shifts to the Tensen hall, where Chobe, now adorned in their ornate robes, radiates a chaotic, powerful aura. Ju Fa expresses disgust, initiating a brutal, fast-paced clash. Lien intervenes, deeming Chobe too valuable for research to be killed in a petty squabble. Lien then guides Chobe through Horai, explaining the Dragon's Pulse. Chobe's inner monologue reveals his singular, desperate goal: to survive and find a way to protect his brother, Toma.
The Banko's Horror
Lien leads Chobe into the Alchemy Lab, a cavernous space dominated by the pulsating Banko, a giant white flower bud. Lien chillingly explains its purpose: to harvest human Tao, turning people into flower-hybrids, their bodies broken down to fuel Tensen immortality. Chobe sees the distorted faces of countless victims, their agony etched into the plant. His fury spikes as he fears for Toma's fate. Lien offers him a place in his research, but Chobe's eyes hold only hatred, a silent rebellion before the lab doors seal him in.
Silent Infiltration
Under a full, eerie moon, Gabimaru's infiltration team begins their ascent of Horai's mist-shrouded rooftops. Gabimaru moves like a whisper, carrying Mei silently. Sagiri and Yuzuriha follow, their practiced Tao stealth making them ghost-like. A brief flashback shows Mei explaining their timing, waiting for the hour when the island's flowers close, weakening the Tensens' senses. Every shadow holds a potential enemy, every sound a potential betrayal, as they slip toward their objective.
Mapping the Labyrinth
From a high vantage point, Gabimaru signals the second team with flares, confirming the path is clear. Senta's voiceover explains Horai's internal structure: five palaces, each dedicated to a Tensen's specific, often grotesque, Tao cultivation method. The Tensens share their research, forming a unified front; killing one alerts the others. This reinforces the need for speed and silence, making their mission a desperate race against discovery.
The Alchemy Lab's Call
Mei points to a distinct building: the Alchemy Lab, where the Elixir is kept and where Lien often conducts his most sinister experiments. Senta warns Gabimaru that the labyrinthine interior will be nearly impossible to navigate without a map, urging them to trust their instincts and Tao perception. Gabimaru activates his Tao vision, seeing the palace as a network of energy, allowing him to perceive hidden passages and guard movements. His eyes glow, guiding them deeper into the heart of the enemy.
A Garden of Horrors
They pass a chilling corpse garden, where failed experiments, partially transformed into flowers, are discarded. The sight almost breaks Yuzuriha's focus, but a shared look with Sagiri steadies her. They understand that failure means an eternity in this mindless, botanical purgatory. The team then silently neutralizes a small group of guards. Gabimaru moves with lethal precision, his hands and feet striking vital points, before incinerating the final guard with a controlled, silent fire burst. The path to the main hall is now clear.
Ran's Welcome
The team stands before the towering doors of the Alchemy Lab. Gabimaru senses no immediate Tao presence, but caution remains. He pushes the massive doors open, revealing a vast, dark hall of ornate pillars. As they step inside, their Tao perception registers a powerful, dormant energy. At the far end, Ran, one of the Tensens, sits cross-legged in meditation, his aura calm but intensely sharp. He does not open his eyes, yet his presence commands the room.
The Master Trap
Ran finally opens his eyes, greeting Mei as "Older Sister," a shocking revelation to Sagiri and Yuzuriha. He calmly reveals that the Tensens have been tracking their every move, a brief flashback showing Lien receiving intelligence about their infiltration. The team has walked into a meticulously laid trap. Ran explains their true value: not as escaped criminals, but as "ingredients" for a special ritual, Hekiji Fukusho no Sai, which requires specific elemental Tao. He observes them with academic interest, signaling the start of a climactic battle as his golden aura flares.
EPISODE REVIEWS

Heavy on exposition but Mei's info dump is actually needed at this point. Splitting into two teams is smart storytelling. Ran appearing at the end with what he knows is a properly unnerving cliffhanger.

While little to no action, we delve deeper into the Tensen’s nature and how Tao governs everything on the island while we are given a look of Gabimaru’s change in mindset. There is also more symbolic imagery which plays into the art style’s strength.

This episode is a bit slow in terms of development, but I think it’s important because they explain the plan for how to infiltrate and reach tensen, as well as each character’s abilities.
