A touching, nostalgic childhood flashback chapter that relies on highly stylized pastel gradients. The visual direction utilizes softer lighting filters over the courtyard of the Celestial Palace of the Jade Pond. The graphics do a wonderful job emphasizing the pure, early interactions between Ichiyou and Syurin as kids, highlighting their lifelong bond.
This series keeps making its world feel more mysterious with every episode. I love seeing Ichiyou form new bonds while all these mysterious characters slowly reveal themselves. His dynamic with Sontou is pretty amusing too. I also love the mix of the ordinary world and fantasy elements. Now that his past is clearer I can't wait to see the present story move forward.
While this one still contains some flashback, but i feel like it is more balanced now that there's a lot more present-day stuff also shown. Slow burn at first but eventually it will get better as the episode progresses.. But the end is not the best in my opinion, i just don't like cliffhangers.. 😅
