Synopsis

All Shuichi Shindou has ever wanted is one thing: to be a rock star. He's got the passion, the best friend slash guitarist, and a record deal for their band Bad Luck — the one thing he's missing is, well, the actual lyrics. One night in a park, a stranger snatches his half-finished work off the ground, tells him it's garbage, and walks away. That stranger turns out to be Eiri Yuki, a famous romance novelist who is exactly as cold and unapproachable as that first impression suggests. Shuichi, being Shuichi, does not take this as a sign to move on. The dynamic that follows is messy, funny, and surprisingly compelling — Shuichi is chaotic and expressive, Yuki is guarded and blunt, and watching them orbit each other while Shuichi also tries to keep his band from falling apart makes for an entertaining mix of music industry chaos and awkward romance. The comedy lands consistently, and the music scenes have genuine energy. If you've seen Sekaiichi Hatsukoi or Love Stage!! and want something from the early era of Boys Love anime, this is one of the classics worth tracking down. It's a 13-episode TV series from 2000, so the production is of its time, but the character writing holds up. Think scrappy underdog band story wrapped around an unlikely romance — the kind where you're not sure if these two are good for each other, but you keep watching to find out.
