A great opening that throws you straight into Golden Kamuy’s brutal wilderness and weird historical charm. Sugimoto makes for an instantly compelling lead, but Asirpa is the real hook: sharp, capable, and impossible to ignore.

Beside the CGI (you'll understand what I mean fter watching this episode) the premise and story of this Anime is quite interesting, considering not many anime set in this particular time period and location. This anime also will have a plus point if you have interest in early modern Japanese history.

Definitely worth a watch, won't blow your socks off, yet has enough hook/tension to the story to make it worth your time. The bear was off but good animation everywhere else. The opening scene jarred me some and made me want to start a brawl, it gives a good set up to Sugimoto.

This episode feels like the hunt for the skin map is going to be brutal, the winter Hokkaido graphics feel cold and vast. Sugimoto's surviving the bear attack is the peak moment.

I love this kind of show. It blends mystery, action, and a bit of history. The art direction is great, mixing traditional animation with CGI to make movement feel smooth. The premiere clearly sets up the plot, so it’s easy to follow. Excited for more and for sure will recommend!

The pacing was perfect in this episode, the way they explain the starting of our journey. Ntm their collaboration in the fight is also very epic! Although I think the animation of the bear is kind of... meh. Still, a good start to begin, an action with 'cultural' themed? I'm in!!

The premise was very good and the hook to watch was strong. Loved the story and combat pacing; events felt impactful but also not long-drawn

This immerses viewers in the harsh reality of Hokkaido and the Ainu culture, which is rarely portrayed in mainstream media. The details in the background, Sugimoto’s movements as a seasoned soldier.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the series premiere and episode one of twelve, 'Wenkamuy' is pure foundation — it introduces the central treasure hunt for hidden Ainu gold and forges the partnership between Sugimoto and Asirpa that drives the entire season. Everything that follows builds directly from the characters, conflicts, and rules of engagement established here. This is the episode that sets the board; the remaining eleven episodes escalate the competition as rival factions enter the hunt.
