Episode Context

Sitting at the series' midpoint, this episode follows 'I Dreamed a Dark Dream,' which established a foreboding, premonition-laced tone, and deepens the Count's shadow over the French aristocracy as his plans move from suggestion into motion. The title itself signals a pivotal reveal in the Count's long game. It feeds directly into 'An Engagement Broken,' where the consequences engineered here begin visibly fracturing the lives of those closest to Albert.
