Lust and Envy were interesting in this episode. It really makes you think why they would take that course of action at the end of this episode at it seems out of character. But from a plot progression standpoint, it's a perfect build up.

Barry's provocations to Al were really annoying but it created a huge sense of doubt for him. Really gets the plot moving.

Great fight scenes here. The amount of dialogue was balanced and No. 48's character was well-written. Shame what happened to them but it was a necessary set up to introduce Lust and Envy.

We head to a more action packed episode, with more grim revelations as the story moves forward. In focus is Al's existential crisis, and how he would handle it from then on. The fights are well animated with a surprising twist in the end. Definitely worth a watch for avid fans.

Superb action scenes and mind-boggling plot added to mix make this a great episode to watch. The Elrics' brothers capabilities in combat is shown visually and their strive to improve as well.

Alphonse ripping that photo of young Dr Knox in half was the funniest thing ever, and he did not even hesitate to destroy that man's entire confidence

The reveal about the philosopher's stone needing actual human souls is so twisted and it makes me wonder if the brothers can even keep looking for it

Gah, that 4-koma bit with Riza dragging Roy by the ear was such a needed breath of fresh air after all the intensity in Laboratory Five, it honestly made me crack up. I swear, sometimes I forget just how much these little moments help balance out the darkness of the main story.

I was so creeped out when Barry told Al to scratch out the blood seal and it made me realize how fragile Al really is right now

Barry the Chopper is a total freak and the way he messed with Al's head actually made me feel sick because imagine thinking your whole life is just a lie made up by your brother

Ed refusing to kill Slicer because he sees Al in them was such a huge moment and it really shows how much he values his brothers humanity over everything else

Ed using Scar's technique to take down Slicer without killing him was so smart and it shows how much he's actually learning from his previous fights

I hated seeing Barry the Chopper get into Al's head like that because now my heart is breaking since Al is actually doubting if he is even a real person or just a puppet

My heart broke for Al when he started questioning if his memories were even real and Barry is such a manipulative monster for doing that to him

I really felt for Alphonse this time because Barry was just digging into his brain and making him doubt his own soul. Seeing Ed pull out Scar's move to stop Slicer was cool, and I like that the anime added that extra blood seal scene to make it feel more intense. Roy's goofy face in the shorts really caught me off guard

Lust and Envy showing up at the end was so unsettling and knowing they want Ed as some kind of sacrifice makes the whole journey feel way more dangerous

Riza grabbing Roy by the ear through a tiny window was the perfect way to break the tension after all that laboratory horror

Ed getting a reaction out of Ling by promising him a full course meal was great, and it shows Ling is still in there somewhere under Greed

That Slicer fight was intense and seeing Ed use Scar's destruction technique made me feel a bit uneasy about what he has to do to survive

You can really see the horror of the situation when those guards turned out to be souls in armor too and it makes Al look like a ticking time bomb

EPISODE CONTEXT

Picking up directly from the investigative groundwork laid in 'Hidden Truths,' this episode throws Edward and Alphonse into the consequences of their discoveries about the Philosopher's Stone. It marks a clear escalation point early in the series—episode 8 of 64—establishing that Brotherhood won't shy away from putting its leads in genuine peril. The events here feed directly into 'Created Feelings,' which deals with the emotional and psychological fallout of what the brothers encounter.
