Al trapping Pride in that dome is one of my favorite moments because it proves he is not just the kid in the suit of armor anymore and I think Hohenheim helping him do it was a great way to show they are finally a family working together even if the situation is totally desperate right now with the Promised Day starting

Hohenheim telling Pride not to make fun of his son was a big deal and it felt so good to see him finally acting like a protective father after being gone so long

Mustang standing at the grave of Hughes right before the coup starts was heavy, and you can tell that loss is still the main thing pushing him forward

Edward putting on that tattered red coat again felt like such a huge moment. He looks ready to take on the world and the way he stared down Central at the end was perfect

Hohenheim using his alchemy to make the earth swallow Pride and Al was stunning and it showed how much power he has when he actually tries

It was chilling to see the Central military label Mrs. Bradley as expendable, and the look of total shock on the team's faces really shows how far the corruption goes

I found it so unsettling when Pride admitted he liked being Selim Bradley and cutting the crusts off his sandwiches. That flashback where his mom shielded him actually made me feel bad for a second

I thought Ed would lose it when he saw Al trapped but seeing him trust his brother's tactical choice showed how much they have both grown since the start

Pride finally met his match when Alphonse realized he needs light to function. That trap was brilliant and seeing the look on Pride's face when the last bit of light vanished was so satisfying

The corruption in Central is terrifying, because the military did not even blink before ordering the squad to open fire on the Fuhrer's wife. Seeing Roy use her as a shield felt desperate and then seeing the General call her expendable was a total gut punch. The Promised Day is starting with pure chaos and the stakes feel completely real now

Lan Fan struggling with her new arm during that forest fight was a bit stressful to watch. It felt like she was a liability and Edward had to keep bailing her out while Pride mocked them

Pride remembering the warmth of Mrs. Bradley protecting him was such a weirdly human moment and it makes him way more interesting than just a regular shadow monster

The tension at the cemetery with Mustang and Hawkeye felt so heavy and then the immediate transition to the gunfire in the streets was intense. This is clearly the point of no return for everyone

Alphonse really outsmarted a monster and locked himself in a pitch black box just to win. The way he talked down to Pride inside that dome was so cold and showed how much he grew

Hohenheim just casually creating a massive stone dome without a circle was the coolest thing. I finally understand why everyone is so afraid of his power and it was a huge relief to see him help

Those shadow eyes blinking all over the forest floor were creepy as hell and it made Pride feel like an actual god. Seeing him get grounded by a simple earth dome was the highlight

Greed just dipping out to go find Father by himself is exactly what he would do and he is going to stir up so much trouble in Central

My respect for Al went through the roof when he realized he could just sit in the dark forever and neutralize Pride because he has no lungs to worry about

I was cheering when Greed jumped in to block that massive shadow attack, especially since he is still acting like he only cares about himself. Seeing his Ultimate Shield take that hit was amazing and I love his chemistry with the team

Amidst all that action, it's heartwarming and it feels like a huge payoff seeing the brothers and Hohenheim have more and more interactions as time goes by. That cliffhanger was a shocker :( poor wife...

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 49 of 64, 'Filial Affection' occupies a critical transitional space — the series is shifting from strategic preparation into the execution phase leading to the Promised Day. Following the alliance-testing events of 'The Oath in the Tunnel,' this episode deepens character motivations and positions key players for the climactic arc that will consume the final stretch. Everything from here accelerates toward Brotherhood's legendary endgame, making this a foundational episode for the payoffs ahead.
