Winry looked so devastated looking at Al all in pieces like that, but his soul returning just in time to help with the notes was such a relief

All the scattered notes coming together to reveal that massive circle was such a shock and it finally gives the team a real chance to fight back against the military plan

Flipping those research pages upside down to reveal the second circle finally gives everyone a real goal to work toward

The way Kimblee wears a white suit while watching a massacre in the snow is the most villainous thing in the entire show so far

Seeing Al wake up as just a pile of armor parts was actually kind of funny but also super stressful since you know his soul is barely hanging on lately and those notes are his only hope

Pride hiding in the shadows of the tunnel is such a creepy visual and it makes sense why he stays in central where he can control everything from the dark like a monster

Watching Hohenheim just walk across that toxic water and talk down to Pride really got me thinking about how strong he actually is. I loved how he didn't even flinch at the shadows and just sent that message to Father like it was nothing. It feels like the show is finally entering the endgame now that everyone is moving

Sloth finishing that tunnel right under the soldiers feet is such a nightmare scenario and you realize how much danger everyone is actually in while they are just sitting around talking on the phone

I seriously lost it when Hohenheim called himself slave number twenty three and told Pride to give the message to Father. He finally stopped moping and looks ready to actually do something about this whole mess

Father looks so much like Hohenheim and it makes that declaration of war feel way more personal than anyone expected

Kimblee is absolutely terrifying for how he just lured an entire army to their deaths without even blinking. You can see he loves the chaos and that blood licking thing was so gross and weird

My skin was crawling when Pride showed up in the tunnels because those eyes and mouths in the dark are just pure nightmare fuel

I am actually terrified of Kimblee after he just sent that whole army to die for a blood seal and he did it with a smile

It was actually really nice to see Rose again and see her helping out the city because she has been through so much and deserves a win after everything that happened with the priest

May really saved the day by connecting the dots in those notes, because without her knowledge of the reverse circle, the boys would be totally lost right now

Hohenheim calling himself Slave Number 23 and telling Pride to tell Father that he is coming is the coolest thing he has ever done

I felt so sick watching the Drachma army march into that blizzard because Kimblee is just using them as human batteries for a circle and they have no idea what is coming for them

On top of that productive strategy meeting with Al's group, the unexpected meetup and dialogue between Hohenheim and Pride is definitely the highlight here. Nice bits of lore drop and the reveal of Pride's boundaries makes it feel like we're actually getting somewhere now.

This episode is a pivotal moment for the story, the revelations and sequence of events flow continuously well. Tension continues to rise with each passing episode, especially with that cliffhanger.

It's cute that my boy Al figured stuff out while literally in pieces 😭 nice progress for that group. Hohenheim's appearance and his events took an interesting turn too. This episode's title really fits the "counterattack" vibes

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the harrowing revelations of 'The Abyss,' where protagonists faced life-threatening dangers and uncovered pivotal information, episode 42 channels that hard-won knowledge into active preparation and counterplanning. Sitting at the two-thirds mark of Brotherhood's 64-episode run, this is a clear narrative pivot from reactive survival to proactive strategy. It directly feeds into 'Bite of the Ant,' where the consequences of these preparations begin materializing into action.
