Kimblee just casually swallowing that philosopher stone was chilling and he is such a creep for playing that prank on the warden too

Scar actually being smart enough to use a decoy body to trick Envy was a great move and him changing Marcoh's face was a wild way to keep him safe

Watching the military split up Roys team is honestly depressing and seeing Breda give Havoc those weights while everyone gets sent to different corners of the country felt like such a blow to their morale

The promise Ed made to Roy about the money was actually so sweet because he is basically telling him he better not die before he changes the entire country and it felt really genuine

I still cant believe Scar actually messed up Marcohs face like that even if it was to hide him from the military because that was just really brutal to watch and it looked painful

That final scene of Winry working in the shop while the brothers head toward the frozen mountains really shows how much the stakes have changed lately, and I was especially surprised by Scar disfiguring Dr Marcoh to hide his identity, because it was such a brutal but necessary way to keep the military from finding them while they search for the truth

Kimblee tricking that prison guard with the fake watch bomb shows how scary he is and that creepy grin after he swallowed the philosopher stone was enough to give anyone nightmares

Kimblee is a total freak for that fake bomb watch prank on the guard and seeing him swallow a philosopher stone like it was nothing was super creepy

My heart actually broke for Dr Knox when his family showed up with food because seeing that grumpy man finally break down and cry after all that Ishval guilt was the most moving part

Kimblee stepping out of prison into the sun with that terrifying grin was such a mood shift and you can tell he is going to cause a lot of problems

My heart broke for Lan Fan in this one since she is so devastated about her arm and her failing the prince even though she did her best

Riza Hawkeye staying so calm while she is basically a hostage to Bradley was such a brave move, and her telling Ed she would kill the Fuhrer in his sleep is intense

The conversation about apple pie by the fountain was such a nice moment for the brothers and it makes the search for May Chang and her weird alkahestry stuff feel much more hopeful now

Mustang looks so lonely in that office with the chess pieces and his whole team being sent to the literal corners of the world by the Fuhrer is just depressing

Riza Hawkeye is easily the bravest person in this show for telling Ed she would just kill Bradley in his sleep while she is acting as his personal assistant under constant threat

The scene with Dr Knox crying when his family showed up with food really got to me because he thinks he is a monster but they still love him regardless

Eds drawing of the panda was so bad it actually looked like an alien and seeing him argue with Roy over literal pocket change was the perfect way to break the tension of the episode

The brothers realizing that Xingese alchemy works when theirs doesn't is such a massive breakthrough and now they have to hunt down that little panda for clues

I really loved the contrast between Roy losing his chess pieces, and that final scene of him getting a secret message through the phone at the bar because it shows that even though the Fuhrer thinks he has isolated him, Roy is still playing the long game and that 520 cens promise to Ed felt like a real bond too

Very interesting character development with Scar, when you compare his actions from the first episodes to now. Didn't expect our (sort of) villain(?) to have this wholesome side too. Can't wait to see how his growth will go!

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the near-midpoint of Brotherhood's 64-episode run, Episode 31 serves as a crucial bridge between the gut-wrenching Ishval War flashbacks and the escalating conspiracy storyline ahead. The horrors revealed in previous episodes now directly fuel character motivations, reshaping how Ed and Mustang approach the threats embedded within the military's highest ranks. This episode locks in the emotional and strategic stakes that will drive the second half of the series.
