This episode focuses on world-building, mainly on the various concepts that would later define the series as a whole. It generally balances humor and drama, as well as action, showing the Elric brother's martial prowess and their commitment in doing what they think is right.

Rose's desperate pleas for a miracle really twisted my gut, especially knowing what Ed and Al went through with their mom. When Edward practically screamed at her to stand up and move on, it was harsh, but I realized he was speaking from his own trauma, forcing her to confront reality like he had to.

It was so satisfying seeing Ed shut down Cornello and his fake miracles because that priest is a total fraud using grief to control people and seeing him get exposed was so good

Sheska being a human library and remembering every word of those research notes is insane but then she dropped that bomb about the stones needing human lives and the mood just shifted instantly

Lust and Gluttony appearing at the very end creeped me out so much and now there are clearly much bigger problems than just one fake priest in a desert town

Rose realizing her boyfriend is never coming back was heartbreaking and Ed's speech about having two good legs to walk forward really hit deep after everything he and Al went through

Mustang doing a custom rap about miniskirts on his hold music is the funniest thing ever and Hughes just standing there in total silence judging him is hilarious

That ending with the homunculi gave me the chills and seeing those two just lurking in the shadows makes the whole Cornello situation feel like a small part of something way worse

People always thinking Al is the Fullmetal Alchemist because he is huge while Ed is just this tiny kid will never get old and Ed's reaction to it is funny

This felt way too fast compared to the manga and the old show and they skipped so much of the Reole stuff so the pacing is definitely starting to feel a bit rushed

You think you are ready for a serious fight with a murderer in armor but then it turns out to be an old lady with grocery bags and Edward just starts shaking

I found the part where Rose realized her fiancé is never coming back really heartrending because that false hope from the priest was just cruel

I felt for Edward when he told Rose to stand up and walk on her own two legs because it really shows how much his own mistakes shaped him

The ending with Lust and Gluttony appearing out of nowhere to deal with Cornello really changes the whole mood, and it makes the stakes feel way bigger than just a local priest. It is wild how fast the story moves compared to the older version but seeing Edward compare himself to Icarus after destroying the fake stone felt like a solid character beat.

Listening to Hughes repeat the same lines about Elicia while Sheska just stares at him was hilarious and so uncomfortable at the same time

I honestly did not expect the episode to take such a dark turn when Sheska dropped that bomb about the human lives needed for the stone. It makes Edward and Alphonse's hope for their bodies feel so tragic now. Also, that Mustang rap in the 4-Koma had me laughing for minutes, because it is just so ridiculously vain for a colonel.

Lust and Gluttony showing up at the end to kill Cornello was terrifying, especially since they seem to be the ones actually pulling the strings.

I can not believe they made Roy Mustang record a rap about miniskirts for his phone hold music and hearing Hughes just stand there in silence made me laugh so much

That 4-Koma short where Mustang has a custom rap about miniskirts playing as his hold music was hilarious and fits his ego perfectly

It is pretty messed up how Father Cornello uses people and their grief to build a fake religion, especially when you see how much Rose suffered.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Following Episode 2's emotional flashback establishing the brothers' tragic past and their resolve to find the Philosopher's Stone, Episode 3 represents their first real lead — and their first encounter with the moral gray zones that will define the entire series. This investigation in Liore plants seeds for major narrative threads involving false prophets, the Stone's true nature, and the recurring cost of wielding power without understanding it, all of which escalate significantly as the season progresses.
