I am so confused about the weird shadow guy that looks like Hohenheim but talks like a monster and I am also not really feeling the new opening song compared to the last two

Pinako standing up to that shadow version of Hohenheim in the dream really stuck with the viewer because it proves humans are strong and will never give up on those they love most in life

It is rare to see a recap that adds so much to the story, especially with Pinako challenging Hohenheim on his cynicism while the world around them is literally falling apart in those montages

Usually you skip these summary episodes but the framing with the bonfire and the dream sequence actually makes it feel important and I loved seeing Hohenheim finally get some development after being such a mystery for so long and that moment where Ed promises to come back for Al at the gate is still the most powerful part of their whole journey

The new opening song Golden Time Lover is okay but it felt like a step down and there are so many spoilers in the visuals if you look too closely at Ling and the homunculi group

happy_mask_salesman_270
Watching Ed tell Slicer that he won't kill him because it would mean Al isn't human really hits hard when you see it alongside Hohenheim's internal struggle with his own humanity in the clearing

Using a dream to explore Hohenheim's guilt is so clever and you get to see how much he actually cares about Ed and Al behind that cold face he always wears to hide the pain

Golden Time Lover is a weird choice for the new opening song and the visuals are way too busy compared to the first two themes

Hohenheim waking up and seeing the bottle was actually there made me feel like he finally found a bit of peace after that heavy dream

Watching Ed scream for Alphonse at the gate still hurts, but Pinako standing up to Hohenheim's cynicism felt like a necessary reminder that humans are not just resources

The timeline with young Pinako is super confusing if you forget it is a dream, and her calling him out on his pessimism felt like a necessary reality check

The reveal of the nationwide transmutation circle is terrifying because it shows just how much the military has been involved in the massacres from the very beginning

I spent half the episode wondering how Pinako looked so young while talking about current events until it clicked that the whole thing was just a dream inside Hohenheim's head. It was actually a really smart way to show how much he cares about his family and the world even if he acts like a weirdly distant jerk most of the time

That shadow of Father mocking Hohenheim for caring about people was chilling and it really sets the stage for how different they are even if they look the same
keith_claes_165's avatar
keith_claes_165
The realization that the whole conversation was just a dream Hohenheim had while drinking alone made the ending feel so much lonelier and he just walks off into the sunrise with his suitcase

Young Pinako appearing in the dream was so surreal and it really showed how long Hohenheim has been carrying all that guilt around with him
hollow_ichigo's avatar

Ed reaching through the gate for Al hit me even harder the second time around and it really grounds the whole philosophical debate in something real and emotional
nami_navigator_82's avatar
nami_navigator_82
The way the show uses a dream to explain how Hohenheim sees people as just resources and then Pinako stands up for everyone was actually really deep and not what you expect from a clip show
mikau_281's avatar

I usually hate recap episodes but that framing with Hohenheim at the fire was actually cool and it made me feel for him more when he saw Trisha again

I thought this was a skip because it looked like a recap but seeing Hohenheim deal with all those memories hit hard and I actually stayed for the whole thing and realized how much he regrets leaving

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the rough midpoint of Brotherhood's 64-episode run, 'Interlude Party' lands directly after the revelations of episode 26, 'Reunion,' which reshaped understanding of the Elric brothers' father and the forces at play. This reflective pause lets viewers consolidate everything before episode 28, 'Father,' where the central conflict sharpens dramatically and the series shifts into its back-half momentum.
