Synopsis
Beryl Gardenant, a middle-aged sword instructor living in a quiet rural village, runs a small dojo and genuinely thinks he's just some regular guy. The thing is, every single student who's trained under him has gone on to do something incredible: one of them, Allucia Citrus, literally became the commander of the Royal Order of Knights. But Beryl still calls himself an old man and lives this quiet, modest life like he hasn't been producing legendary swordsmen for 20 years. When Allucia shows up to drag him to the capital as a special instructor for the knights, you start to see just how wide the gap is between how Beryl sees himself and how the rest of the world sees him. This 12-episode TV series from Passione and Hayabusa Film leans into that contrast really well: there's solid sword-fighting action, but also a lot of warmth in watching former students try to show their teacher how much he actually matters. The mentor-student dynamic is the real draw here, and having a middle-aged protagonist instead of the usual teenage hero gives it a different energy. If you liked the wandering swordsman vibes of Rurouni Kenshin or the "underestimated protagonist proves everyone wrong" feel of The Rising of the Shield Hero, this hits a similar spot. It's grounded in a way that reminds me of Grimgar too: fantasy that doesn't rush past the human moments.

This ep was everything I wanted from a swordsman anime. Kuruni finally earning her solo victory felt incredibly satisfying, and the duel afterward was pure hype.
I guess our old man is going to start cutting down magic soon. But that Lucy Diamond is really OP eh?

Este episodio me recordó lo horrible que pueden ser las personas ya que estas historias no salen solo de la imaginación.
Otra waifu para la colección. La pelea con el pajarito estuvo un poco lenta y desbalanceada.
Megusto la nueva waifu. Más que amor irradia determinación y admiración.
Confirmo que es un Harem. Pero, el protagonista no solo es realmente hábil sino que es inteligente y un agradable sujeto.

A good watch indeed. That was fine swordsmanship from Beryl and his students. That last fight scene set the stage for the next season, telling us what to expect, and I'm hoping it will be a better one, which focuses on Beryl truly becoming a master swordsman and not just full of backstories. Though I feel like this could have been made into a 24-episode anime, it was still a good watch.
I have said this before, still not a fan of CGI, but for this one episode, it was utilized nicely. They portrayed the skills and the number of assassins. Beryl is still using his honed skills, and there are no overpowered skills in any of the fights. Looking forward to the last episode.
We are introduced to another character, and that last bit of the episode smells fishy. I have to say, though, not really a fan of CGI when there are action scenes. So far, the story is progressing smoothly, and Beryl is showcasing his skills along with his students.
This episode is not bad and not okay as well for me. It's just plain and normal which focuses on the relationship between Mewi and Beryl. Wishing for a deeper plot to the story, though, and showcase more of Beryl's talent with the sword.
That last bit of the episode was a surprise, though it had a lot of CGI, it was still a good action scene from Allucia and Beryl. Plus, I love how there is 0, and I mean 0, fan service. Just pure feelings from Beryl and his students.
Not exactly a bad episode, but it's just a slow one. Focusing on the relationship between Mewi and Beryl. Plus, we get to discover more about the concept of magic in this one.
Not a bad episode, just feels rushed and lacking in emotion. I must say, though, that Beryl really never feels OP, nor does he seem like he's destined for something greater like his father says. Beryl just seems like a good person who put a ton of effort into his skills.,
If anyone is clad in the armor of plot and OP-ness, it is definitely Lucy, not Beryl. A lot of action in this episode as well, and we get a deeper problem than just petty criminals. Next episode it is!
I kinda vibe with this one, a lot of slice of life for Beryl and his former students over swords. A little slow, but there's a little cliffhanger at the end, which makes you look forward to the next episode.
