Synopsis
Having spent his entire life in the water, Haruka Nanase is finally taking his swimming to the next level at Hidaka University in Tokyo. But on his first day, he bumps into Asahi Shiina, a former teammate from middle school he hasn't spoken to in years. Turns out, their junior high swim team didn't exactly end on good terms, and seeing Asahi again drags up all the complicated feelings Haruka thought he'd left behind. There's also Ikuya Kirishima, another old teammate who's been training overseas and clearly has some unresolved stuff of his own. So now Haruka's trying to compete at a collegiate level while also figuring out how to deal with friendships he kind of let fall apart. This is the third season of Free, and it shifts the setting from high school pools to university competition, which gives the whole thing a more grounded, slightly more mature feel. Kyoto Animation and Animation Do still deliver some of the most gorgeous swimming animation you'll see anywhere: every stroke and turn looks fluid and intentional. If you liked the emotional weight behind the rivalries in Haikyuu or the way Yuri on Ice handles personal stakes alongside athletic competition, this hits a similar chord. It's 12 episodes of old friends reconnecting, competitive tension, and Haruka learning that moving forward sometimes means going back first. If you've been following the series, this is where it all comes together.

Finally, the final episode arrived, and it was incredible. Every competition was intense, with everyone giving their all while supporting each other. My favorite part was the post-credit scene after the ending theme. The way it beautifully wrapped up the story felt cinematic and unforgettable.
The finals are here! Spectacular animation and sound make this breathtaking. Rei overcoming his anxiety was so moving. My favorite part was seeing everyone finally reunited—all together, supporting each other. This payoff is exactly what we waited for!
An outstanding episode! Watching Haruka struggle is heartbreaking, but Albert is incredibly cool. Rin and Makoto's support is so moving, and young Misaki is the sweetest highlight. The sound design blends perfectly, enhancing every tense and heartwarming moment!
The starting arcade game scene was my absolute favorite—just pure fun! The episode then beautifully slows down with Haruka's peaceful moments, before dropping major revelations. The way it shifts into that sudden, intensely serious ending is just incredible. What a watch!
Finally, the moment I'd been waiting for! Seeing those two best friends reconnect was incredibly emotional. The swimming animation beautifully reflected their bond, making every moment hit harder. Haruka was amazing, and the payoff was so satisfying. I was genuinely happy for both of them.
This episode picked up right where the last one left off, focusing even more on everything happening between Ikuya and Hiyori. It started off heartwarming before becoming emotional and intense. The ending was packed with tension, turned completely serious, and left us on a brutal cliffhanger.

What an incredible episode! The animation was absolutely breathtaking, especially the drowning scene—it looked so realistic and beautifully animated.
