Coming off the deepening of Ryou and Souma's relationship in Episode 6, this penultimate installment brings Rei's influence to the forefront, raising the emotional stakes across all three central characters. It functions as the season's final setup episode — conflicts and feelings that have been building all season are brought to a head here. Episode 8 will need to deliver the resolution, and this episode exists to make sure that payoff matters.
