I can't believe Goku actually used Kaio-ken on top of Super Saiyan just to keep up with Pikkon and the electricity made me think he was going SS2 for a second

The way Goku and Pikkon both got disqualified for touching the ceiling of the arena was such a weird way to end a fight that was actually getting good

Pikkon pulling off those weights and holding his own against Goku makes him one of the best filler characters in the whole series even if he acts exactly like Piccolo

those sparks appearing in the aura during gokus transformation might be an animation error but it still makes the final standoff with pikkon look more threatening during the face off

watching pikkon drop those weighted clothes makes the upcoming fight feel like the old world martial arts tournament days and goku looks like he is actually having fun again

I know this whole arc is technically filler but seeing Pikkon absolutely wreck Frieza and Perfect Cell in Hell makes him feel like a massive threat right away, and it's crazy how he just handled them without breaking a sweat, so I'm really looking forward to seeing if Goku can actually keep up with someone that strong

You can really tell pikkon is basically the west galaxy version of piccolo with the way he stays calm and hides his power under those heavy clothes

getting to see pikkon humiliate perfect cell and king cold in hell earlier makes me way more excited for this final match because now goku actually has a real challenge again

the grand kai seems a bit goofy but his tournament let goku find someone as strong as pikkon so the buildup to their fight actually feels earned

goku taking out maraikoh was a decent warm up, but everyone is really just waiting for him to finally trade blows with pikkon in the finals

i usually hate filler but this other world tournament is actually fun and getting to see goku fight someone as stoic as pikkon is a nice change of pace

seeing pikkon just walk through the ginyu force and frieza makes the fight with goku feel so much bigger and he even has weighted clothes like piccolo had back in the day

that lightning around super saiyan goku at the end is weird because he definitely isnt ssj2 yet and the animators probably just messed that up while trying to make him look cool

Speed was the name of the game once Pikkon took off those weighted clothes and he actually managed to catch Goku off guard which was cool to see after that Cell fight

The fact that they both got disqualified because they touched the literal ceiling of the afterlife is such a goofy Dragon Ball way to end a high stakes fight with Goku

You can really tell the animators had fun with Pikkon's fighting style since his moves look so different from the stuff Vegeta or Gohan usually do during their fights

Goku pulling out the Kaio-ken while he was already a Super Saiyan was such a wild move even if the animation looked a bit weird with all that electricity everywhere

Those homing energy waves were actually pretty clever for a filler character and Pikkon really just feels like a more colorful version of Piccolo with a cooler hat

That Faulconer synth music during the final exchange made the whole atmosphere feel way more intense than it had any right to be for a side story, and I was definitely feeling the hype

This whole tournament in the afterlife is such a cool concept and I really liked seeing Pikkon use that Thunder Flash move against Goku. It felt different from the usual stuff, and even though it is filler, seeing them fight to a draw because of a technicality with the ceiling was actually a pretty funny way to end it

EPISODE CONTEXT

Landing at episode 198 of 291, this falls in the stretch between the Cell Saga's conclusion and the Buu Saga's escalation — a period where DBZ leans on filler content to bridge major arcs. The episodes surrounding this one feature standalone stories and extended sequences not found in Akira Toriyama's manga. Fans pushing through to the Buu Saga can safely skip this without losing narrative thread, though it offers a breather before the intensity ramps back up.
