I really dug that weird fish guy turning the whole ring into a giant bubble of water because it felt like old school Dragon Ball goofy stuff

Episode Context

Episode 197 falls squarely in the interstitial filler block between the Cell Games arc and the seven-year time skip leading into the Buu Saga. The major battles are over, Gohan has had his defining moment, and the series is in a holding pattern before reintroducing the cast as older versions of themselves. Skipping this episode entirely will have zero impact on your understanding of upcoming canon events.
