Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School - Despair Arc

This anime is truly an anime of despair. It gave a solid background to the characters of the game, and it made the whole Season 2 of Danganronpa more sensible. It left a bitter taste in my mouth, but that's where the Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School/Hope Arc comes into play. Please watch to fully appreciate this anime to its conclusion.

If you were expecting something fun and a stress-relief, it's the polar opposite. This episode is stress-inducing; from start to finish, it's just full of despair. Still, what a powerful episode that totally summed up everyone's backstory.

I think this is the point where the series really makes you understand the ideas of hope and despair, to the point that you'll wonder how everything could end or turn around. That said, I do think the contrast between the two should've been introduced more clearly from the beginning, since some of the later scenes feel a bit meaningless without that proper context. Still, this part does a great job of making up for the lack of substance in the earlier episodes and delivers a satisfying comeback.

This is full of gripping emotion and unexpected twists that will have you saying, "I never saw that coming!" You'll also probably find yourself thinking, "What now?" or "So that's how it was!"

This episode is brutal. If you're sensitive to topics relating to torture, this episode might be too much. This show is true to its title; all I feel is despair as I watch this, and I know it's going to get worse.

One remarkable thing here is how Junko gets under your skin, makes you dislike her, and, surprisingly, makes you feel despair as well. It does an excellent job of conveying those emotions. Everything is now building toward the conclusion, and this is an episode you shouldn't miss.

The episode is great. The tension keeps you hooked and makes the turning point highly anticipated. I like the narrative surrounding luck. It's kind of funny to see how events here seem to go Komaeda's way, but the story presents the idea that doesn't feel ridiculous. Instead, it convincingly illustrates how luck can influence certain situations.

Oh no, things are starting to get rough. Although the title of the anime itself is already a hint that this anime wouldn't be all sunshine and rainbows, I'm still feeling this anxiety of imminent doom. I'm scared to watch the next episode, I can't stop myself!

The blood bath has begun! Although I do think the motivation for the gore is a bit needless, or perhaps I've never been desperate enough to do something like that. It's also a nice touch that they made a nod to the game's slideshow mechanics in this episode.

Things are starting to become interesting. Although I never really understood the motivation of Junko Enoshima, it's gteat that this anime prequel gives us a gist of what made Junko who she is. There's still a lot of plot holes that I hope will be answered in the next few episodes, and I'm excited to see them!

The majority of the episode was lackluster. This episode focused on the Ultimate Imposter, and it's nice that we're given more intel about him since he was barely explored in the game. However, the last part of the episode was a cliffhanger that piqued my interest. It seems like the chaos is about to ensue.

The level of absurdity this episode had was beyond the roof; it's so unrealistic it's hilarious. But realism isn't really Danganronpa's quality, so I'll shrug it off. Still, this was an entertaining watch nonetheless.

This part is almost ugly. It's the first time I've ever used this word. It's feels that way to me because it mostly shows senseless killings without any real substance. If they wanted to go to those lengths, they should've developed the characters' motivations or backstories more. This is a prequel, after all. It doesn't achieve the same level of justification as Light from Death Note, whose motivation begins with his extreme sense of justice and viewing life as boring, which eventually led him to become who he is. It also feels like it was trying too hard to capture the hype of the movie Battle Royale, but failed because everything was rushed. The soundtrack is great, but even that isn't enough to save the episode.

This one lives up to its role as a prequel. It's where you say, "Ohhh, so that's how it was." There are some gory parts here that feel unnecessary.
