Synopsis
Meet Davi, a regular middle school kid going about her life, who gets a cosmic upgrade when she and her new group of friends are chosen to become Cubistars—magical guardians who draw their powers from the stars themselves. Their job? Keep the cosmic balance between good and evil from tipping the wrong way. Pretty standard magical girl setup on paper, but the show has a few things going for it that make it stand out. For one, the animation blends 2D and 3D CGI in a way that gives everything this bright, almost toy-like aesthetic that fits the tone perfectly. It's a 26-episode ONA aimed squarely at a younger audience (think ages 4-11), so the comedy stays light and the stakes feel age-appropriate without being boring. Each of the girls gets her own star-based powers, and watching them figure out how those abilities work together is genuinely fun. The vibe is closest to something like Flowering Heart or Smile Precure—colorful transformation sequences, friendship-driven problem solving, themes about teamwork and courage. If your kid loved Sasami: Mahou Shoujo Club, this scratches a similar itch. It's not trying to reinvent the magical girl genre or anything. It knows exactly what it wants to be: a cheerful, comedic fantasy about girls discovering they're way more capable than they thought, wrapped in a candy-colored package that younger viewers will eat up.
