📖 SYNOPSIS

The anime follows the monk Xuanzang's arduous journey to western India to obtain the Mahayana Buddhist scriptures. Along the way, he frees the mischievous Sun Wukong, imprisoned by Guanyin, and takes him as a pupil. Together, they encounter a pig monster attacking a girl, who is then reformed and becomes another pupil, Zhu Bajie. Later, a kappa, renamed Sha Wujing, also joins their ranks. During their travels, Sun Wukong confines a monster, and the ball he throws creates a holy mountain, revealing the Ho-den hall pagoda where the scriptures are kept. Upon reaching Tathagata Buddha, Xuanzang is promised the scriptures, which will be delivered by a dragon cart, marking the beginning of their return journey. The series explores themes of faith, redemption, and the bonds formed through shared trials.
