It is nice being able to just jump into a random episode without needing to know twenty years of lore and the ending of this one was surprisingly bleak

You can see how this set the tone for the entire genre and the specific focus on those taboo scenarios in the classroom is pretty bold

I kept thinking about how this compares to 5th Period Venus and the way Moriyama handles the atmosphere makes the whole thing feel much more claustrophobic

This one pushes the boundaries for an eighties ova in a way that feels very risky and that afterschool setting makes everything feel way more tense than the previous special

That classic hand drawn texture from the eighties looks so much better than the clean digital stuff we get now and it really fits the dark tone of the school halls at night

when you look at how influential these early OVAs were, the animation quality in this specific special is actually surprisingly high for the time.

that synthesizer soundtrack during the locker room part is stuck in my head and it is very distracting

you go in expecting one thing but the weird fantasy touches halfway through really change the whole mood of the scene

I finally tracked this one down and it is basically just a showcase for Tou Moriyama's art style, which is very soft and round compared to other 80s stuff. It lacks the dark tone of some other Cream Lemon episodes, but the school setting feels classic in a way that modern shows try to imitate but can never quite nail.

the transition from the comedy bits to the actual adult scenes happens so fast and it just felt weird

the way the sci-fi elements just bleed into the school setting is definitely something you do not see much anymore

Tou Moriyama has such a specific style and seeing it animated in this special was a total trip for my brain

i found myself just staring at the character designs because they are so different from anything being made today

this episode is like a weird time capsule of how animation used to look before everything got digital and clean

you really get that grainy eighties vibe from the classroom scenes and the music is so dated but it works

That ending transition into the sci-fi stuff was a complete mess and the pacing felt like they were trying to cram way too much into twenty minutes

I spent a long time looking for this because people said it was a huge deal for the old ova scene, but seeing this specific special really drives home how experimental they were being with the sci-fi stuff and the way the fantasy elements just bleed into a normal school setting is bizarre because Moriyama Tou really leaned into that weird aesthetic for the character designs and backgrounds

Moriyama Tou has such a specific way of drawing faces and it really stands out during the more explicit moments of this special

The sci-fi elements feel so out of place for an afterschool setup and it makes the whole thing feel like a strange fever dream from thirty years ago

My eyes are hurting from that 80s grain but the character designs in the classroom scenes are actually pretty charming and I like the sci-fi weirdness they threw in there

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 25 of 38, this installment arrives past the series' midpoint, following 'Etude 2: Early Spring Concerto' and its more emotionally driven tone. Cream Lemon's anthology structure means no continuity is required — each entry operates independently with its own cast and scenario. This episode reinforces that standalone rhythm, resetting the mood entirely before the remaining stretch of the series introduces further unrelated storylines.
