This episode shows the intense grind of the training camp that highlights the team's dedication. The emotional payoff at the end hit so much harder.

It was a team effort by playing and practice together. It was amazing that they have a one goal and independent individual.

What makes Chihaya a great heroine is that she's willing to accept her weaknesses and improve on them. Though I do feel bad for Taichi because he's always acted like a placeholder, I'm happy he didn't gatekeep the message the way he would have as a kid. Good character development

After the karuta club reaches five members, the whole episode feels lively with a wholesome vibe. Their dynamic is really great as they try to level up and support each other. The camp should’ve been refreshing but kinda missed. There’s a lovely surprise at the end!

Personally I see this as the group's training arc. The pacing is a bit slow on Karuta part, but on the flip side, we do get some Taichi and Chihaya moments, and maybe Arata and Chihaya too. I really like slow burn romance that has other genre in it, making the character felt real

the dynamic of these five works because everyone is ambitious in a different direction, the writing lets each one of them want something specific. rare for a club show to flesh out the side cast this evenly.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 9 sits at a pivotal transition point roughly one-third into the season. The previous episodes established the Mizusawa Karuta Club's formation and official recognition, and this installment now pivots toward competitive preparation, building the team chemistry and leadership foundations necessary for the Tokyo regional tournament arc that follows. It's the bridge between 'getting the band together' and proving they can actually compete.
