the duo of taichi and porky has honestly always been so funny to me. seeing them grow together while constantly playing against each other is just so sweet and incredibly cute. and that random conversation they had about chihaya right in the middle of it had me laughing tbh.

utilizing the structural mechanics of the dead cards provides an excellent source of psychological friction. having two core characters develop in parallel tiers forces a direct conflict that naturally elevates the overall competitive stakes of the entire tournament arc.

The dead cards in this game are SO FUCKING ANNOYING. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time watching them play. This match was incredibly serious and the tension when they both only had one single card left was actually giving me anxiety.

Even though they usually practice together, it feels different when they face each other in an official match. They have to think hard to win, and the pressure is real. The pacing goes back and forth, their dynamic grows stronger, and the animation supports the tension well.

This episode was a overflowing emotion for all players and characters. It was kind of jittery to watch and it's amazing.

It was finally mentioned that Chihaya gives weird nicknames to their peers. I find that personally offensive, but it's nice that they're fine with it and giving her a pass. The Class B fight was really intense, I'm glad that they didn't hold grudges for their defeat. 10/10

Again, I have to praise how this show keeps the tension in every scene. I like how Kana and Komano both showed their growth in the episode. The subtle animation when dead cards were read made this anime really charming. Taichi showing his internal strife made me root for him more

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 19 of 25, this follows Chihaya's grueling first Class A match and pivots to the ensemble cast's personal development — a necessary recalibration before the season's final stretch. The internal matchups here deepen the fractures and bonds within Mizusawa, directly seeding the character dynamics that will drive the closing episodes. It functions as essential connective tissue, ensuring the team's eventual late-season challenges carry real emotional stakes.
