Nope, it wasn't a surprise. It was too obvious that this person was going to be the mastermind behind the whole operation. Frankly, I found the first part of the episode boring, wasted minutes of the characters wondering what to do and how to solve the case. The action scenes were the only redeeming feature, but even so, having the villains describe their abilities and plans, giving the protagonists the chance to neutralize them, is BAD writing.

The Azure Messenger case gets super intense, Dazai is oddly calm while everything explodes around him, and the Agency teamwork is peak. The final hospital confrontation? Pure chaos and tension from start to finish.

Kunikida and Dazai duo were chaotic but they also had good teamwork. I think they really work well together despite the differences. The action scenes were good. The animation details were amazing, I especially like that one side by side angle and the effects of their skills. The background music really adds more dramatic effects and tension. There’s also a little bit of emotional impact and some unexpected scenes which makes me hooked and invested to watch more.
