Ranpo absolutely carried this episode 😂 his roast of Minoura was legendary, and Dazai just drifting into a crime scene like it’s normal life had me wheezing 💀 The river case twist plus Ranpo’s calm deduction was so satisfying. Atsushi’s reaction? priceless 😳🧠

I loved this episode. A good mystery that's solved within the episode is always welcome. It reminds me of the early episodes of "Case Closed" (back when the criminals didn't have engineering degrees). The explanations for the deductions sound quite convincing, and Rampo really comes across as a competent detective. Dazai is no slouch either; in this episode, they both establish themselves as highly intelligent. Furthermore, the case has a good dose of drama, which I personally love.

This is why Rampo was my goat! My boy was really good. I highly recommend watching this. He was a little bit goofy but when it comes to deduction, boy he was not playing around! I actually learn a lot of detective stuff here and it kind of makes sense that you’ll actually feel overthinking everything around you. And the animation effects really did not disappoint along with the background music that really fits well with the scenes.

I would take an entire spin off series alone just based off this episode alone. From early, Ranpo shows everyone just why he’s one of, if not, THE most important assests the Agency has.

A suspicious murder investigation takes center stage as the Agency works to uncover the truth behind a strange crime. Atsushi follows Kunikida through the crime scene while carefully observing the clues around him. The mystery slowly unfolds piece by piece.

This episode feels like a thrilling return to classic detective tales like Sherlock Holmes or Edgar Allan Poe. The introduction of Ranpo as a brilliant detective with a unique ability is truly impressive. It strongly reminds viewers that this series focuses on detective agency.

Might be a bit biased, but this is one of my favorite episodes in Season 1 where they introduced one of the greatest character in the anime. I love the twists and surprises of this episode, playing with my emotions and all

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the intense Black Lizard confrontation in episode 4, this standalone murder case functions as a deliberate cooldown at the season's near-midpoint, shifting from Port Mafia tensions to a character-focused detective story. It deepens the Agency's roster by fleshing out Ranpo's role and methods, giving the ensemble texture beyond Atsushi and Dazai. This breather sets the foundation for the escalating conflicts that define the season's back half.
