Every battle fought and every sacrifice made alongside his friends brought Eren Yeager to this moment — and now they have to kill him for it. That's where this two-part TV special picks up. The final chapters of Attack on Titan drop you into the endgame where former enemies who spent years trying to destroy each other are now the only ones who can stop Eren's apocalyptic march across the world. Armin, Mikasa, Reiner, and what's left of both the Scout Regiment and Marleyan military scramble together a desperate last stand against someone who used to be their closest friend. MAPPA handles the animation for these concluding episodes, and Hiroyuki Sawano's soundtrack does the heavy lifting in scenes where dialogue just isn't enough. The tone is bleak and relentless — this isn't a victory lap, it's a funeral march where every character has to reckon with what loyalty actually means when the person you love becomes the thing you swore to fight. If you got into Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood for the way it weaves war, politics, and personal stakes together, or if Neon Genesis Evangelion hooked you with characters breaking under impossible choices, this lands in similar territory. Fair warning though — you need the full series behind you before watching this. It's the conclusion, not the entry point, and it hits harder the more you've invested.
