Fire Force Season 3 Review - A Blazing Return You Can’t Miss!

The famous anime Fire Force premiered the first episode of Season 3 on April 4, 2025, with a total of 12 episodes streaming globally on Crunchyroll. I assume there are still many people who haven’t heard of it before, but in fact, Fire Force is well known worldwide and is actually connected to Soul Eater.
Since Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 (the final part of the series) recently premiered on January 9, 2026, on Crunchyroll and other platforms, I’d like to take this opportunity to share my thoughts. In this post, I’ll be breaking down the pros and cons of Season 3 to help you decide if you should dive into this "fire" series.
First of all, before sharing my thoughts about Fire Force, there is one thing we should be clear about: the entire anime is surprisingly long. Both Season 1 and Season 2 consist of 24 episodes each, and Season 3 Part 1 has 12 episodes. This means you’ll need to watch 60 episodes to get caught up before starting Season 3 Part 2.
Just like any other long-running anime, Fire Force does contain some filler episodes that you can skip. However, if you truly want to understand the whole story, you still need to do the 'homework' and watch the core episodes. Finishing the anime doesn't mean your 'homework' is over; it just means your 'true' journey is beginning. Because Fire Force contains so many heavy keywords and unique settings, you won't understand what's happening—even after watching the whole series—unless you keep up with your 'homework.

Special Fire Force Company, White Clad, Tokyo Empire, Great Cataclysm—the list goes on. Fire Force contains many complex keywords that can be difficult to grasp. If you’re someone who doesn't like memorizing terminology or isn't really into doing 'anime homework,' then this series most likely isn't for you.
However, if you are someone who enjoys complicated settings and unique worlds, or if you love doing 'homework' on lore, then Fire Force is one anime you definitely don’t want to miss. Fire Force is a great anime, and it contains a lot of things to talk about. From here on, I will dive deep into Fire Force Season 3. Please note that this content will contain spoilers; if you want to avoid them, please leave now!

Fire Force & Fire Fighter & Fire:
As the name suggests, Fire Force is all about fire. There is a lot of fire in Fire Force—almost every episode contains it—so the "Fire Force" is an appropriate job in the anime, and our MC, Shinra Kusakabe, belongs to one of the units. And since fire is an element that appears so often, the fire effects have been rendered with high-quality animation.
How does the high quality of the fire relate to the anime? Throughout the entire series, these high-quality fire animations are primarily used during fire incidents, explosions, and battles. You may not have noticed, but Fire Force is actually a shonen series; therefore, when it comes to shonen scenes—especially the battles—they are well-executed and quite fun to watch.
From a battle animation perspective, if you are a shonen fan—or are currently looking for a good shonen anime—Fire Force is a series you definitely need to try. Ever since Season 1, whenever characters like Arthur Boyle, Joker, or Benimaru Shinmon make a move, the episodes are usually produced with high-quality animation, and I am sure you will love it if you give them a try.
In fact, Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 aired its second episode on January 16, 2026, and since it was a Benimaru-focused episode, the animation was amazing. Fans worldwide have given it high scores of 9/10 on multiple websites. If you have Benimaru featured as a character in Fire Force, everything really seems to work out in amazing ways.
Fire really works well with battles and special effects, and I think the anime team knows it. When it comes to fights and explosions, you can trust Fire Force, as you will be highly satisfied with the animation.

Fire Force & Smiling Moon& Unique World:
After you start watching Fire Force and progress further, you will notice a super weird phenomenon: a smiling moon! The smiling moon is one of the strangest occurrences in the entire series. Why is this happening? Well, since I am also someone who doesn't fully understand the logic of Fire Force—or what we should call the "Ohkubo-verse"—I can't really explain it to you. But believe me, it is definitely one of the highlights of the anime.
Why is the smiling moon one of the highlights? It’s because it serves this unique and complex world, while also showing that everyone in the anime is, in some way, crazy. Because of The Great Cataclysm—also known as the "Big Disaster"—the world has transformed into something different, and since then, everyone, including Shinra, has become a bit crazy. There are many different kinds of "crazy," but in the end, everyone in this world is just somehow off.
I understand that knowing the characters are "crazy" might sound like a red flag to some people, but interestingly, this is one of the reasons why Fire Force became so popular worldwide. Even in a fictional world, it is difficult to take complex settings and keywords and merge them into a believable universe. The reason it’s so hard is simple: usually, characters within a story can't adapt to those difficulties.
We can think of different kinds of settings, but ultimately, if our characters can’t adapt the story, you can’t make people believe the story. This is why everyone inside Fire Force are crazy, because they are crazy, then anything happens will seem normal, since the characters had already become crazy enough to adapt to any situations.
This may sound very weird, but Fire Force is actually crazy enough to make everything feel logical. A smiling moon might be a very strange setting for any other anime, but for Fire Force, since anything can happen, a smiling moon is really not a big deal.

Conclusion: Personal Rating: 7.5/10
Fire Force, including Season 3, is a great anime and definitely worth watching. However, as I mentioned, it is also a series that is complicated and full of difficult terminology. If you actually watch it, investigate the lore, and do some "homework," you will truly have a great viewing experience.
On the other hand, if you don’t want to do any "homework" right now and are just looking for a simple anime that offers easy fun, then Fire Force might not be suitable for you. Even though you can still enjoy Fire Force without any concerns—since it is still a shonen anime at its core—to maximize your viewing experience, you will eventually need to understand the deeper details.
Thank you for checking out this post. I hope it helped you decide if Fire Force is a must-watch for you. More anime reviews are coming soon—stay tuned!
