Black Clover Season 2 Anime Review: Asta & Liebe Deliver Pure Hype!

Asta and Liebe are back! Check out our full Black Clover Season 2 review to see if Studio Pierrot delivers the ultimate Spade Kingdom hype.
October 3, 2026 was an important day for every Black Clover fan, as it was the day the long-awaited Season 2 Episode 1 finally aired. The previous season ended on March 30, 2021, so it has been over five years since we last saw Asta in anime. With that in mind, how can any fan not be excited or happy?
Although I am not a big fan of Black Clover, I still enjoyed Season 1 very much, so once the new season officially aired, I quickly gave it a try. To be honest, before I watched it, I was quite worried and scared, scared that it hadn't grown from its previous season. But once I started Episode 1, I realised I was very wrong. It is absolutely amazing, and I have a lot of things I want to share with everyone! This post is not about who should watch Black Clover, but about how Black Clover has become something everyone should give a try!

Black Clover and WANIMA: Another Great Opening for the Black Clover Series
I think every fan who has watched Season 2 Episode 1 will agree with me, Black Clover Season 2's opening is amazing and epic! Black Clover has always had relatively strong openings compared with other long-running anime titles. Back in Season 1, we had the incredible "Black Rover" and "Black Catcher" by Vickeblanka, as well as "Grandeur" by Snow Man.
"Black Rover" and "Black Catcher" are epic openings, as they just give you the vibe of Asta's journey and really help you get into the story easily. Personally, "Grandeur" is another 10-out-of-10 opening. It perfectly captures the terrifying vibe of the Dark Triad and makes you curious about what will happen next.
「消えない理由」(Kienai Riyuu) by WANIMA has extended Black Clover's legacy of great openings. It didn't disappoint anyone. In fact, it's an opening done with extremely high-quality animation! I especially love the final part where Asta headbutts the villain, and I strongly suggest everyone at least give this opening a try!
Of course, the quality of an opening has no relationship with the quality of the actual anime. Just because the opening is good, we can't say the anime is good as well. So, after discussing this extremely high-quality opening, let's talk about what the actual anime is like.

The Visual Differences Between Season 1 and 2: Studio Pierrot's Huge Power-Up
Although I think most readers of this post are familiar with the Black Clover anime, for those who haven't watched it or don't know much about it, let me quickly explain some background on Black Clover Season 1. To be honest, Season 1 did have some problems, and the main one was its low-quality animation.
Instead of airing Black Clover in seasons like My Hero Academia, Studio Pierrot aired Black Clover as a long-running anime, like the past Big Three (One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach). There are pros and cons to this decision. The pro is that we could watch Black Clover every week, which really helped build a strong fan community. But on the other hand, the con is quite obvious too: Studio Pierrot couldn't match My Hero Academia's level of animation, and sometimes it was bad to the point where we can't really unsee it.
I think Studio Pierrot did realise that the animation had become the biggest obstacle to Black Clover growing even further, so this time, they took a lot of time and created a super high level of animation for all of us. After the opening, you'll soon notice the big difference between Season 2 and Season 1: the main character, Asta, looks completely different!
In the previous season, there were times when Asta looked cool, times when he looked normal, and sometimes he looked totally weird! This time, Asta looks cool from the beginning to the end of the episode, and the quality of the backgrounds has also improved a lot. In terms of animation alone, I think Studio Pierrot has done a really great job, and based on Episode 1, we couldn't ask for anything more.

OshiFlash: Find your next anime in a flash!
FROM YOUR ERA OshiFlash
I'll be publishing more content soon, including anime plot explanations, character deep-dives and much more, so please stay tuned.
While you wait for my next post, please give OshiFlash a try! It brings you the anime from your era, so you can quickly mark every show you've watched and finally have it all in one list.
Let's Try OshiFlash →Besides the Incredible Animation: The Story and Pacing of Black Clover Season 2
After talking about Season 2's stunning visuals, let's talk about the story and pacing, which I think a lot of people are curious about. Actually, pacing was another big problem Black Clover faced in the previous season. Just like the legendary Big Three, when it comes to weekly airing, it can't be helped that the anime needs to slow down, add anime-original episodes, or create tons of recaps.
In the previous season, Studio Pierrot had chosen to slow down, and create a lot of anime-original episodes. Although I understand it can't be helped for Studio Pierrot to choose such methods, to be honest the pacing did affect the watching experience. I wouldn't say I had been frustrated by it, but I do feel that it lacked something to give a better watching experience.
Pacing was also something I was worried about for Season 2, but after watching the whole episode, it turns out the pacing has actually improved a lot. It feels like I'm watching a different anime! Unlike the previous season, this time every action and scene has meaning, and with better pacing, the storytelling has improved too.
Storytelling and pacing are closely related. When the pacing is bad, the anime can't really progress its story, which ultimately affects the viewing experience. This time, the story progresses at a good speed. Within just one episode, a lot of things happened, almost the complete opposite of the previous season! I was really shocked when I first watched Episode 1, as I never thought Black Clover's story could move this fast!

The Best Comeback for Every Fan: Who Should Watch and Who Shouldn't
Even though Black Clover Season 2 has only just started its journey, I'm already quite satisfied with it, and I think it's an amazing masterpiece. However, no matter how great it is, no anime is perfect. There are people I would recommend it to, and there are also people I wouldn't.
No matter how amazing this anime has become, or how many incredible scenes it has given us, at its core, Black Clover is still a Shounen anime, and every part of it just has that pure Shounen feeling. Once again, there are pros and cons to this. Since Black Clover is just so Shounen, if you're a Shounen lover and quite interested in it, it's definitely an anime you need to give a try.
On the other hand, if you're currently looking for an anime in a different genre, or you're someone who dislikes the Shounen genre, Black Clover Season 2 is not for you. Although the animation has improved a lot, the upcoming episodes will be packed with Shounen elements, and our Asta will shout even more and get even noisier!
I'm someone who loves the Shounen genre, and although I'm not a die-hard fan of Black Clover, I'm still looking forward to the next episode and excited to see how much stronger Asta has become. I really hope everyone gives this anime a chance, as it has become so different. So if you're not that put off by the Shounen genre, please give it a try!

If you're interested, remember to keep up with it and don't skip any episodes, otherwise you'll get lost in the story! Episode 1 is just the beginning. Trust me, the upcoming episodes will be far more amazing, and you'll definitely get hooked!
