EPISODE REVIEWS

Things already feel more chaotic now that the story has established its unusual world. Michiru is probably the character I'm most entertained by because she really doesn't seem built for all this madness 😭 Meanwhile, Chika and Shito continue bringing completely different personalities into every situation. There's enough comedy to keep things fun, but something unsettling always seems to be lurking underneath it.

This episode has a bit more action than the last. Shito and Chika face a non-animal enemy this time, one that's not easy to defeat. Let's ignore the fact that the school isn't closed or swarming with police officers despite three kids going missing. In this chapter, Shito and Chika push Michiru out of her comfort zone to find her own reason to live, even though it seems her days are numbered. I must say, the dynamics between the three are a lot of fun to watch, and it's hilarious to see Shito and Chika arguing in the middle of a battle. It's implied that even though the boys don't seem to have much empathy for Michiru, they're willing to help her. And now we have a compelling reason for the timid Michiru to join their cause.

I love the fact the two boys do not have the patience to cater with Mitsuru's low self-esteemed nor feel sorry for her. They need her so they push her out of her comfort zone, whether she likes it or not and Mitsuru is shown to have only benefited by her growing stubbornness by pushing back. It showed a subtle equal relationships between them. The episode also did magnificent in establishing the core personality and dynamic of the main cast that the audience expect. The climax is a masterclass performance that beautifully depict the theme of fighting to live.
