Why does this episode have to be so brutally heartbreaking? Watching Tsubaki's relationship fall apart while Kaori faces that terrifying physical setback in the hospital completely crushed me. Plus, Nagi's sudden entry adds a really fun, chaotic spark to the narrative.

This feels pretty heavy. Tsubaki starts realizing her feelings and gets really confused about everything changing around her. At the same time, Kousei is also avoiding some things he doesn’t want to face yet. A lot of emotions going on here. What is happening??!

Kousei realised that other pianists performances were inspired by his playing when he was younger. Instead of feeling threatened, he understands that music is about pushing each other to grow.

Tsubaki is jealous and scared of losing Kousei, while Kousei avoids seeing Kaori in the hospital because it hurts too much. A new pianist shows up, hinting at fresh challenges. It’s a bittersweet look at love, change, and growing up. Talk about feelings!

Friends rally, offering support. Warm tones; a lighter score is used as a backdrop for a comforting vibe. I guess it's nice seeing them provide comfort but nothing's substantial is in here.

A great balance of comedy and drama. The little talks continue the events of the previous episode, and finally, Tsubaki’s understanding of her own feelings. Saito’s actions won me over—it’s sad to see him hurt, but he’s a true gentleman. Visually appealing and delivered well.

Heartbreak piles on heartbreak. Tsubaki's dumped, learns Kousei's leaving, and can't keep lying to herself anymore. The moonlit scene with "Clair de lune" is achingly beautiful. Nagi's introduction feels sudden but intriguing. The title fits—everyone's lying to themselves.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting past the two-thirds mark of the series, 'Liar' follows 'Footprints,' where characters began confronting how their relationships have shifted beyond the boundaries they'd set for themselves. This episode deepens that emotional reckoning, particularly for Tsubaki and Kousei, before 'Two of a Kind' pushes these evolving bonds further toward a point of no return. It's a critical transitional episode in the back half of the series, where the show trades momentum for emotional groundwork that the final act will depend on.
