I really appreciated the deeply reflective tone of this transition episode. Seeing Tsubaki's emotional dam completely break in the storm while Kousei faces his hospital trauma was incredibly raw. The subtle hummed duet of "Clair de Lune" is pure melancholic perfection.

Here feels really emotional. Everyone visits Kaori and even though things look normal, you can tell something is off. At the same time, Tsubaki starts thinking more about her feelings for Kousei and it makes things kinda heavy.

Kousei tries to overcome his fear of piano, Kaori tries to convince him to play with freedom, and Tsubaki also feels jealous as she sees their bond were growing and they were becoming to come closer.

Kousei fights his fear of the silent piano, Kaori pushes him to play with freedom, and Tsubaki feels jealous as she sees their bond grow. A quiet episode, but full of emotion—small steps that mean a lot.

Kousei struggles with guilt and helplessness. Shadows dominate the frames and the piano score is mournful. To be honest, seeing him blame himself feels tiring at this point. I might as well drop this if he doesn't stop moping.

A lore-deep and resonating episode. The hidden meaning behind Kaori’s tone, the bickering that lightens the atmosphere, and Tsubaki’s complicated feelings. It’s not the music she hates—it’s that music takes Kousei away from her. Amazing visuals and touching soundtrack.

Tsubaki's episode. While Kaori hides in the hospital, we are able to know that Tsubaki is in love with Kousei. The beach scene is gorgeous and symbolic: footprints merging, then diverging. Her breakdown feels earned. A quieter episode that shifts focus to the

EPISODE CONTEXT

Arriving just past the midpoint of the 22-episode run, 'Footprints' follows the emotionally charged 'Love's Sorrow,' where Kousei confronted significant personal demons through performance, and deliberately downshifts to explore the ripple effects on those closest to him. Tsubaki's internal reckoning here is essential groundwork, deepening the relational stakes before the next episode, 'Liar,' pushes the evolving dynamics between Kousei, Tsubaki, and Kaori into more complicated territory. This is the kind of character-focused pivot that pays dividends in the back half of the series.
