This episode hits you hard emotionally, and it does an excellent job of giving us the kind of scenes that rub salt in the wound when tragedy strikes. One of the things I never understood about X, even after reading the manga, is why Fuuma, having just become the Earth Dragon, is so comfortable with his new powers and his villainous role. Considering Kamui, who isn't even able to create a barrier—a basic skill for Sky Dragons—it seems very strange to me that if they're supposed to be opposing forces, they're at such a disadvantage. That said, this fact adds a lot of tension and a great deal of pessimism to the scenes, since we know Kamui is doomed against Fuuma. This episode is one of those that helps create unease in the audience, making it feel impossible for the protagonists of this story to win. There's something key in the final scenes that I hope will be explained in later chapters: a wound that later becomes very important for one of the Dragons of Heaven.
