Synopsis

A pair of adopted siblings run a rental shop in old Edo (Present-day Tokyo) where fire and flooding is prevalent and everyday items are rented out to not impede when they flee. Mixed in the inventory are old objects that have turned into spirits after hundreds of years of existence called, Tsukumogami. These supernatural creatures listen to conversations around town and spread it as gossip. It is up to the good-hearted siblings to react to these quarrels and resolve the situation using the powers of the Tsukumogami. (Source: Crunchyroll)

This is a satisfying finale that focuses on the heart of the series: the relationship between Oko and Seiji. The incense burner mystery is solved, but the real resolution is emotional. Oko's slap and confession to Seiji is the climax the show has been building toward she's not his sister, and she never was. Seiji's final compliment is the perfect ending simple, honest, and full of meaning. The tsukumogami's reactions are, as always, the perfect comic relief . The show ends not with a grand adventure, but with the quiet joy of two people finally being honest with each other.I really enjoyed watching this episode.

This episode is exactly what makes this show special. It's a quiet mystery wrapped in Edo-period atmosphere, where the supernatural elements aren't scary they're part of everyday life. The concept of scrolls changing at night because of a spirit's unfulfilled longing is the kind of gentle, melancholy magic that the show does so well. The connection to secret love through the gardenia flower language fits the episode's theme perfectly, even if it's not explicitly stated.
